I was at one of the largest liquor stores in my area today, and noticed all the Old Charters had a new label. Just a slight revision of the older one, nothing drastic. But I saw a new 12 yr with the same label as the 8 and 10 yr's. And no 12 with the black label "Classic 90" to be found.

So my question is, When they changed the label did they do away with the Classic 90 12 yr black label? And are now just labeling it OC 12 in the yellow label? And is it the same stuff. I just recently discovered the Classic 90 and like it a lot. Dont want to see it go...

Anyone here know of the current status of OC 12? I hear $10 per 1.75l price increase due to shortage of product. Just wondering if this is a local issue or industry wide.

The amount ($10/1.75) sounds unlikely. That would be brand suicide. Buffalo Trace is taking a price increase on Old Charter and probably will on other brands too, as will other producers, if the increases stick as I believe they will.

I certainly hope they stick. And, I hope that the increase does more than cover raw material cost increases. I hope it's just pure profit. I want them to make money--lot's of it. Because, even with a sizable increase in price, bourbon will still be a value in comparison to some other spirits that I buy. But, more importantly, with increased margins and revenue, it gives the distilleries more incentive and ability to expand their offerings in premium and experimental brands. These are good things.
