Having a margarita right now:

1 1/2 oz. silver tequila

1 oz. triple sec

1/2 oz. fresh lime juice

dash agave syrup

Shaken and strained and very much hitting the spot right now.

It'll be Baker's from here on out, though.

After putting a nice pork roast on the rotisserie, I made an Old Fashioned using Templeton rye. Though I think it's rather light for drinking neat I've grown fond of using it for this cocktail. I dare say I prefer it to Baby Saz.

Later with the roast I might have a pour or three of WT rye. I might as well, It looks like work will be rained out tomorrow too. This weather is beginning to put a dent in my bourbon budget.

First time pour of Fighting Cock. For a younger bourbon, it's quite nice and very reasonably priced.

A pour of Fleischmann's Rye, then one of Bulleit, and now another Fleischmann's for a nightcap.

OW 107 followed by Makers Mark. I am really looking forward to picking up a Weller 12 since I am really enjoying the 107.

Revisited my Hirsch 16 Gold Foil. I try and like it, but I still don't. I got a nice hit of caramel, but that is the only good thing I got out of this bourbon. Maybe this is a bad bottle, although maybe it's just me. Cam and I went to a bourbon tasting a few weeks ago, and they had it at the bar we were at. I wasn't particularly fond of that bottle, either.

Ok then, so I'm not alone. I had high hopes for the Hirsch but I can't be past the coppery taste. It's not a bad bourbon but I have others that I much prefer over the Hirsch. I hadn't had any in a number of months so I went back to it about two weeks ago and still didn't find it overly enjoyable. I'll keep working at it and maybe it'll "hit" me one day.....

Earlier this evening I had a nice pour of The Glenlivet 15 Year...I had a nice fruitiness to it.

I had a terrible work week - I'm a teacher, and it's that time of year...standardized state tests are over (hooray for TX:rolleyes:), and it's not fun.

Anyway, I'm mixing cocktails, and plenty of 'em:

1. Pink genever - terrific, complex, malty-spicy aperitif

2. Negroni - also very complex, and a first for me. I think this could become a favorite.

3. Manhattan - having this right now. It's only so-so. I'm used to straight rye in these (at least at home), so this bourbon version is a bit too sweet.

Next up, it'll be some ND OGD 114 or WT Rye w/ a bit of dark chocolate. I should sleep quite well.

I don't envy you, Tboner. Had a rough one myself. Bad weather and over time.... I feel like I haven't been home. Oh well. Laphroaig + Coldplay = Happiness. Tomorrow night... back to the grind!!

I had the great privilege of being part of an escort for 29 Medal Of Honor recipient's who are in Seattle for an annual dinner. I was able to meet Robert L Howard, Michael E Thornton and Leo K Thorsness, three very amazing men. What stories they have. Tonight I open my Saz 18 to the 110 living recipients of the M.O.H., I was in the presence of greatness today and it was humbling.

I started off with Dickel Barrel Select, sipped three shots neat.

Going for the gusto now, Dickel No. 12 on the rocks.

Last night it was Fighting Cock 103. I'm not a huge fan.

Tonight, it's my first try of (I felt obliged as SB.com member number 1792) Ridgemont Reserve. It wouldn't make a list of my favourites, but I cant say straight away it tastes like anything else in particular. It was good enough for a second pour :)

Over in another thread, the Mashbill TOTM, Chuck said that 1792 was a "malt-heavy" bourbon.

It's a bit different.

Cool Oscar, thanks for the info. It's good to try bourbons like this to get the different flavor profiles. I was about to order another bottle, but I think as a wheater fan I will get either Weller antique 107 or Weller 12...... any thoughts??

My first try at Bakers. A little trepidation while opening this bottle as the cork was a little dry and started to break up as I opened it. All was well with a little luck and slow patience. I wonder if this is an older bottle. I don't know how to read batch numbers, but the batch no. is B-90-001. I bought this bottle as "a dusty" in a store that acquired stock in an older, "out-of business" store (there are some late 1980s and early 1990s EW Single Barrels in this store). What a great bourbon the Bakers is! I hate I waited so long to try this. I'll be buying another bottle of this--and soon.

WTRR101 right now.

But I think I may be following with ND OGD 114. One or both of these bottles may, unfortunately, be empty at the end of the night. Fortunately, I have more of both.

I am having some OC 12. One of my favorites for the money. I get a bottle everytime I go to Kentucky!
