Kevin, where did you find the Heaven Hill BIB in Dallas? I don't ever see it.

Last night was a very healthy pour of Mr. Elmer T. Lee's finest.

Tonight, I'm thinking it will be a regular WT, followed up with a healthy pour of WTRR 101.

Martian,

PM me if you'd like to know where to get the HH BIB. I know of three or four stores that have it. Also, let me know if you'd be interested in a DFW area SB.com tasting of some sort.

I finaly made an Old Fashioned with Beam Black. It was ho-hum. Better, I think, than BT but not as good as Saz. Jr, Templeton Rye, or WT Rye.

Now I am drinking a nice snifter of ORVW 107. MMMMM. Tastes like a delicious, very bourbony cocktail all on its own.

Indulged in a little more libations than I usually do today. Started with a Ginger and Fighting Cock. Next up 1982 Cabin Still 86; Weller Antique 107 and then a small pour of Willets Rye; all the while enjoying the the day with my family.

My second pour of the latest Willett 22 yr old rye. Celebrating my return to New York City in style. And this is easily one of the best whiskies I have ever tasted. It's like some kind of super-charged juicy fruit gum. Clings to your mouth and won't let go. With loads of spice and must and wood that round out the experience but never go astringent. You can roll this baby all over your tongue, and it satisfies every taste bud it touches. And even at 136 proof, there's no problem drinking it neat. Can you tell I like it?

It's going to be a beautiful summer.

Finishing the last two fingers of WTRR 101. I have eight more bottles bunkered (and I know where there are five more) but I'm still sad to see it go.

Great description Mike! I tell people the Willet has a finish like a freight train: it's carrying lots of things with it, it seems to go on forever, and it's extraordinarily powerful.

Hey Mike,

Welcome back home. I too enjoyed a small pour of Willet's yesterday...you are correct...the (seemingly) never ending finish....

Best,

Tonight was a nice dram of Old Pogue with home made apple pie. :yum:

Assaying some older Jameson 12yo tonight, from at least two label/bottle generations ago. Shows some peat, and a fair amount of pot-still copper. Which reminds me, the Forty Creek Three Grain from my Canadian tasting a week or so ago also shows a lot of pot-still character -- and I'm enjoying both this Jameson and that Forty Creek.

All of which -- :deadhorse:-- reconfirms my impression that their pot-character American cousin, Woodford Reserve Four Grain, just isn't very good.

Tim,

Is this the Jameson 12 year bottle you just tried? I have yet to open mine but it has been calling my name lately...

No, yours -- judging from the metal cap/closure, would be older still, I'd guess. These are the two I currently have open, neither which is the current rendition (or is the one of the left current -- I forget? I think the '1780' has been ditched, or de-emphasized, at least):

The one referenced from earlier tonight is the older one on the right.

Since I have them both out, I just poured the newer one: I also like it very much, but it's lighter in color, had virtually no peatiness, though still some pot-still in it. Quite noticeably different, the two, really -- though, of course, with a family resemblance.

Please let us know how your older one stacks up when you open it.

My wife and I went out for a belated Father's Day dinner tonight. The bar at Scott's Seafood only carried the Jim Beam Small Batch Collection, so I ordered a Basil Hayden's on the rocks. The saving grace was in the size of the pour - very generous! A pleasant way to end the day.

What's in the black plastic case?

My guess... it's the back/bottom of a Glock box?

Definitely not a gun. It is a Transcutaneous Electronic Nerve Stimulator which is used for muscle stimulation. In short, I have a bad back and use it to relax the muscles. However, a gun next to my whiskey might be a good idea. Don't mess with the stash!!!

Tim - I will let you know about the Jameson 12 once I open it. I only have that bottle and then a current one which I will compare it with.

Last pour from my bottle of Baker's. Good stuff. Gonna have to replace this quickly.
