Gillman
Interesting comment, Cam. I wouldn't call it mild and I am wondering if the shipment across the world has changed it a bit. If it did, sounds like an improvement!Gary
mgilbertva
The bottle of Noah's I had wasn't "mild" either, but I did like it quite a bit. Rowen's Creek was milder, something like Baker's only better. How much variation is there from year to year for KBD bourbon's like Noah's and Rowen? Gillman
Well, that's a good point too since being a merchant's bottling, these can vary. In fact I can attest to this for Rowan's Creek, which generally is a fine whiskey, as is Noah's Mill, but I've found the latter quite vigourous and forward in taste. Even assuming we are tasting the same thing though, tastes do vary...Gary
Gillman
Just a further thought: at one time, rye whiskey (and bourbon) was shipped around the world, or through a good part of it, to accelerate and improve its maturation.Assuming that Cam's Noah's Mill is from the same stock I've tasted, I wouldn't discount that it may have improved from long shipment in varying climates including warm ones, even (as must have occurred) shipment in the original bottle.Gary
OscarV
Pappy Van Winkle Family Reserve 15 Yearl Old I love it, to this day,.....................
ggilbertva
Opened a recent find. Canada Dry Stitzel Weller 80 proof and 86 proof Cabin Still. Both are from the 70/80's. Trying to determine what similarities, if any, there are with these two bourbons. The nose on the Cabin Still is very faint and it has a little more alcohol up front...not sure if that's because of the difference in proof or mashbill. The Stitzel at 80 proof has more of a nose and is smoother on the palate. Sorry I can't offer more but I'm not very good at picking out the more subtle tastes. Hyperspace
I’m trying Elijah Craig 12…the second bottle. Like the first, I’m not too impressed. It's not bad, it just don't "float my boat".

Pappy 15 is probably it.

ggilbertva
GTS Fall 2005Hey Bob....how is it? I have both the Spring and Fall but they are bunkered right now. How does it compare to the '06?
Bob O.
Hey Bob....how is it? I have both the Spring and Fall but they are bunkered right now. How does it compare to the '06?Unfortunately I don't have the 06. I have checked everywhere around here and haven't come across it. Funny thing...I picked up the 05 a couple of weeks ago. I was in a local store and picked up a couple of bottles and noticed the empty row where it was tagged GTS. A week later I went back in for some other things and lo and behold there was a bottle there. I assumed it was an 06...until I checked the proof and realized it was a Fall 05. Not sure how its journey ended up there but I was happy to come across it.
ILLfarmboy
Saz Jr. the 6-7 year old stock. Others on this board have mentioned a bottling of ten year old stock. I only infrequently order from Sam's or Binny's. It's been a few months. (no one in my area carries Saz. Jr.) Is the current age of this brand 10 yr. or was it a one off special bottling? It seems a little darker in color and a little dryer in taste.bj
