False Adverstisement by ebay sellers?

I was perusing ebay and looking at some of the items for sale (bourbon) and came across an item that stated of the PVW15:

"Pappy Van Winkle`s 15 year Family Reserve. This is Bourbon is not currently in production and it is impossible to find; it is unknown if or when it will ever be released again"

My question to the seller was:

"Not that you need to respond, but I read with interest your statement that this bourbon is out of production and impossible to find. How can you state that when it is in production and not impossible to find?"

Doesn't ebay have some sort of policy on making false statements when adverstising items for sale? I'm not an expert on ebay as I rarely sell anything on it, but this statement is obviously misleading.

The ebay seller has many bourbon items for sale but one in particular stood out....VSOF 12 year. I purchased a bottle of this from Binny's for around $34. This seller is selling it for $149!

I'm sure there are International buyers that can't get some of the fine products we enjoy here in the U.S. and purchase items off of ebay, but good grief.....$149?

It is precisely eBay policy that REQUIRES such a statement. A seller risks having his posting pulled if it's not included, because only licensed liquor dealers can sell current product. (Of course, it's an ostensibly open question whether simply calling something a 'collectible' transforms it from whiskey, too -- but then eBay couldn't justify ever allowing ANY liquor listings, and netting the fees from them.)

I haven't made any bottle purchases off of eBay for some time. Prices have gotten ridiculous, anyway, maybe even because of folks like us. A late-'70s 750ml of ordinary Old Fitz BIB sold last week for $125+!:bigeyes: :bigeyes: I'm out at those prices.

I've seen these types of ads myself. Besides the 2 you mention, my other 'favorite' is miniatures listed as 'rare', with high starting bids, that I can walk down the street and buy for a couple bucks.

I often feel like making a stink, but decide to keep quiet so as not to draw too much attention to the sale of liquor in general, which is probably illegal to begin with.

Don't worry, weasles like that have a special place awaiting them...

I wonder if this was the same seller I came across a few month back; He was asking $125. for a bottle of Old Fitzgerald 1849 ($14. last one I had) because it was bottled in the early 70's so he claimed it was @40 years old LOL. I sent him a kind message stating the truth but I did happen to see it relisted for the same price.

This same ebay seller has a bottle of Very Special Old Fitzgerald for $149. I bought a bottle not too long ago for $32.
