I'm always in the market for a new bourbon, and wondering about Corner Creek. For those who have had it, what do you think? Is there another bourbon out there you could compare it to?

I bought a bottle last year. I didnt like it at all. I felt it was a waist of $25. There is much better bourbon for that price.

When I could get it for right around $20, I thought it pretty good for the price. I don't think it is any longer being made, though, so if you try it and like it, don't become too attached. It may be hard to replace.

I've always liked corner creek, and since locally it is priced the same as WT101 and jb black, I always keep a bottle or two around. It is different, and I have a hard time quantifying the difference, but I do like it.

Try it, what's the worst that can happen?

When I was visiting KBD in September they were bottling Corner Creek.

I'll second that. I bought a bottle about 2 yrs ago and my recollection is that I found it rather thin, harsh, and non-complex. Tom V

My wife just got me 2 bottles for my birthday. Binny's have it for $17.99, it was just the $90 Fedex charge that was a real bitch!!

I don't mind this bourbon. I had no expectations, as I had never read about it here before, but I have had worse bourbon. I also found it rather non-complex, although it made a nice mixer.

I have a couple of bottles my wife got me as gifts and that makes them kind of special to me, and as you say, you can always find a good use for any bourbon!

That Fedex charge is a real killer Scott! If I were in your shoes, I would order only fairly high end stuff (you're gonna pay a lot regardless) and as much as I could afford at a time, as I expect it costs proportionately less after you soak up the initial charge.

Then again, if I were in your shoes, I'd go out and visit some great Australian wineries, and see some Kangeroos, take a bit of a drive through the outback, and try to squeeze in some reef fishing!! Tom V

My comment about its availability was based on personally not having seen it recently. My bad. Apparently it is still around.

The last time I had it, I found it surprisingly good and worth the price, which was about $20.

As always, one problem with independent bottler brands, especially in this time of tight bulk whiskey availability, is consistency. These days they often have to take what they can get, rather than being able to pick and choose to perfectly match the brand's flavor profile.

The last time I had it, the product had an 8-year age statement on it. Does it still?

I nearly ran over some Kangaroos coming home from work the other day...there's quite a few of them in this area. Sorry, Tom, but those wineries don't make bourbon

I normally get 8-10 bottles in a box from Binny's, it cuts it down to about $25 per bottle, which makes it easier to bear. Plus it's either I pay it, or I don't get it!:grin:

Yes Chuck, 8 year old 88 proof. I think I commented in another thread about it recently, but it has a really deep beautiful color about it, almost comparative to Booker's!

That was the 1st sign to me that this was going to be bad.

My bottle also sayes 8y 88P.

I found my notes, this bourbon is dry. I like a sweeter bourbon.

This bourbon is nothing like Bookers, which I really enjoy.

Now that's an interesting point. I don't recall any bourbon (or straight rye) I've ever had that came in a tinted bottle. I've certainly had good Scotches and Canadian whiskies that were in tinted bottles, though.

I consider Weller Antique 107 to be a great bourbon, and it comes in a tinted bottle.

I also like the old weller 107... but dont remember the bottle other then it is short and squaty. Same as the van winkle 107.

Me neither. I had some Antique the other night and I didn't notice the bottle being tinted. I'll have to check now when I get home.

I have a bottle of Beam's Choice, 8 yo from the early eighties I'd say, that comes in a red-tinted glass bottle that looks like a cut glass decanter. Perfectly fine whiskey, perfectly strange bottle.

Mark, I would if I could - I don't have a digital camera. Not much of a gadget guy, I guess, I still listen to music on turntables.

I checked the bottle and the Beam's Choice is older than I thought - around 1974. There's a tax stamp ridiculously festooned over a large plastic cap, that completes the cut glass decanter look. The only label is around the neck. I'll say this - since I've been scouting out dusties I've found four or five kinds from as early as the mid seventies, and this is the best preserved of them. The red bottle is, in the final analysis, kinda tacky in, yup, an avacado-and-Cordoba seventies way, but it kept the whiskey tasting fine!

American Blended Whiskeys typically come in tinted bottles. American Straight Whiskeys typically do not. I asked the owner of the Corner Creek brand why he chose a tinted bottle and he said it was just to "be different." Straights are typically sold in clear bottles so you can assess their color. Corner Creek's color is fine, so they weren't hiding anything.
