OK, now I'm bummed (double entendre intended)

Here in Oklahoma, we have an extremely small list of Bourbons available for purchase. I have built the base of my collection through my local proprietor, but the interesting stuff I have gotten through road trips, from Duty Free shops, through some interesting trades, and also through mailorder from places like Binny's and HiTimes. It is now official, they will no longer ship to Oklahoma. No more Buffalo Trace, no ETL, no more Birthday Bourbon, no more Jeffersons. Things you guys take for granted are now on my unobtanium list.

I'm bummed.

That is a bummer. I guess it's time to start looking for good liquor stores in the closest border towns...

Yeah, thought about that already. Got my choice of Wichita KS, Joplin MO, Fort Smith AR, and Denton TX. None of em are close, and I wouldn't have the slightest idea where the best liquor stores would be. Looks like I have some "adventures" ahead.

That sucks man! Did Binnys actually tell you they will not ship to you? I just went to their page and there is no mention of not shipping to OK and OK is still a selection in the list of states. Did they cancel an order on you or something?

You might give this a look. I've never done business with them nor do know anything beyond their web site but it looks like they will ship to OK.

That's exactly what they did to me when Arizona was added to their no-ship list. However, AZ still does not appear on the warning message that pops up when I select "Add to Cart".

I understand not keeping a website perfectly up to date, but the change regarding Arizona was a year ago.

Yep, they called and said they were cancelling an order because they could no longer ship to OK.

That's a shame. I'm starting to see NJ listed as a state certain online liquor stores cannot ship to. I really hope that Binny's doesn't decide to no longer ship to NJ, it will ruin many purchases I hope to make in the future and I don't know where I will get the bottles from instead.

What a pathetic situation, it really boggles the mind; someone of legal drinking age (I would assume anyway.) not being allowed to purchase alcohol. As I've said before, that's the government for ya...

Best of luck if you try Shopper's Vineyard or any other online stores, get while the getting is still (sorta) good! I've done business with SV both in person and over the web and had no problems whatsoever!

Do you know if something recently changed with your states laws or if Binny's just realized that their list of non-shipping states is/was incomplete?

I've purchased from Shoppersvineyard before. This is where I purchased the Pappy 15 for $36 a bottle. I purchased 7 bottles of bourbon overall and paid $22 in shipping. I thought that was pretty good.

Here in Mississippi it was/is not Binny's or others decision to not to sell. It was the State not wanting to lose revenue through sales taxes (7%) and the State Controled warehouse where they collect 27.5% upcharge to the retailer. They tout preventing under-age drinkers from buying over the internet, but following the money trail leads to other real reasons for me. The loss of 34.5% (per case/bottle) in taxes could add up to some serious dollars being sucked out of State coffers.

I had hoped that states would react to the Granholm v. Heald Supreme Court decision by getting rid of their shipping laws that are designed to protect liquor distributors from competition. Instead, it seems like many states are doing the exact opposite and making their laws even more restrictive than they were previously. And it's always for the children! I know that when I was a teenager, there was nothing that I would rather have done than to steal my parents' credit card and order some really expensive whiskey over the Internet, to be delivered in a week or 10 days.

You guys are scaring me. I'm praying Virginia doesn't follow suit.

Virginia is a control state. Liquor is available only through the state controlled monopoly, ABC. It has all the benefits one would associate with a state-run monopoly. They are aggressive at making sure they don't lose a penny of tax money from liquor and wine sales.

So, I was surprised when I found out internet retailers would ship liquor products here. Being that Virginia is also a "Protect the Children" state it would be just like them to do something like Oklahoma.
