i do try to use the search function here, but sometimes, it's hard to thresh through it all to get specific answers w/o asking!...

anyways, this premiere line is intriguing me and i plan to get my first Stagg tonight or tomorrow..................!

how difficult is it to get the earlier bottles of this premium line?

i see ridiculous prices online. esp. in europe!

How good is your luck? They're out there -- somewhere -- but you just have to be at the right place at the right time, looking for the right thing.

I apologize in advance for reviving this older thread, but being new to your group I have been diggin' 'round for insights and information.

Prior to my membership here, I just looked at bourbon as a consumable, but now I see there is quite a bit of collecting aspects associated with it as well.

I just picked up a bottle of GTS Fall '05 (141.2)...It was very expensive, but I had a gift certificate to burn, so it only cost me $20 out of pocket.

I bought it with the intention of drinking it, (for the first time I might add) but now I'm wondering if that would be wise....if this is really scarce, should I just hang on to it unopened? Or would you go back and get the other two bottles I left on the shelf? Or at least one more....one to open one to save? Based on the tasting notes its killing me not to taste it.

Ron if it were me and it's Fall 05' Stagg you are not going to find it every where! I have several of them myself. If you can? get the other 2, one to open and then you'll know what to do with the other 2!

Tony

P.S. went to Munising Michigan and put on 220 miles last weekend!

It seems to me that there would be no better occasion to open a bottle of GTS on than when you've found your first bottle of it, no matter what the year, so go for it. When I found my first bottle (the same bottling you just got, in fact) I couldn't wait to try it but then got hesitant that evening when it came time to open it but I did and thoroughly enjoyed it! How much did it cost anyway?

The bottle price was (is) $89...but on sale for 10% off.

I'm not sure if I'm more afraid of opening it and losing the value of a hard-to-find release, or opening it and reaching the bottom too quickly.

Tony - I only have 95 miles logged so far this season...but I'm heading up to Tug Hill (Adirondacks) this week. Should be able to put 3 to 4 hundred on before I head back. I'm very jealous of you Michigan folk...Snow in the U.P. and the Red Wings...now that's a winter season. I have so-so snow, and a so-so hockey team.

I wouldn't worry about the former, it's true value is it's great taste; the latter depends on you. I've only had 4 different GTS's and the Fall '05 bottling is by far my favorite! :toast:

You'll find more "consumers" on this board than "collectors", me included. I'd drink it and buy the other two. GTS is a favorite.

Welcome!

I'd run, not walk, back to your store and grab those other two bottles. When you open any of them is completely up to you, but definately open and drink them! I honestly don't believe there is much "collectibility" to Stagg. I think the pricing that gets associated to it is simply a matter of its scarcity. I think it very quickly reaches a maximum as to what people are willing to pay for it.

That being said, I don't collect, I drink what I buy and I've bought as much Stagg as I could afford over the last two years. And I plan on drinking it all.

Sorry for the delayed reply guys...I was out of town tryin' to kill all of the snowflakes up in Tug Hill. We had internet, but only dial up...I'm not that patient anymore.

Tony - I clocked 350 miles in 2 days, came back early due to freezing rain today. Maybe Al Gore is right, rain in January just shouldn't be.

I took some ERSB up with me to share with the boys....I should have taken more, ran out right quick. Always trying to convert the unexposed.

Anyways, thanks for the unanimous green light on consuming the GTS as opposed to just staring at it on the shelf. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't putting personal gratification over doing the 'smart' thing. I will await the proper moment and company to partake...hopefully sooner than later.

I'll see if the other two bottles are still there...the bigger question now is to find a way to justify the two Ben Franklin's to my wife.

Ron
