What's the current availability of George T. Stagg?

Sorry fellas, I'm a new guy and this is already my third new topic, but I just had to ask.

Today I saw a bottle of George T. Stagg, but I did not buy. Being the novice Bourbon enthusiast that I am (who loves history and research) I decided to check out this board to find more info on this Bourbon. While the search engine does not allow you to be too specific (i.e., search Topic only, etc.) I was able to find one thread where Stagg was mentioned and it sounded as if it's rare to find. Is this so?

And, how long has George T. Stagg been aged? And, is it better to get a certain year (i.e., '05 better than '06, etc.) and where is the year represented on the bottle?

Thanks for all the help. In the meantime, I will continue my research online to find out as much info as possible.

You might find better luck searching for GTS. If you can, pick it up. Depending on where you are at it ranges from not too hard to impossible to find. You can tell the release by the proof on the bottle. Check this thread.

Perfect. Thanks for all your help. Now, I'm going to have to run over to the liquor store and see what year it is.

I wouldn't leave without it. It definitely deserves to be added to your growing collection, regarless of release.

Going, going gone. I spend way too much money on Bourbon and I can't stop. Stagg is part of the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection that is released each fall. The GTS is difficult to find. I was able to find out that in the whole state of VA, 10 bottles were left. I picked up 4 bottles today at a nearby ABC store. The rest are about 4 hours away in Southern VA. Fortunately for me, the shelf label read $49.95 while the register rang up $60.95 :smiley_acbt: . I argued with the salesman over the price telling him that "his advertised price is only $49.95". He reduced the cost and gave them to me for that price....I was very happy. :cool:

You are preaching to the choir. Good thing is there are quite a few of great Bourbons for less than $25. I just woouldn't want you to miss an opportunity to get a hold of the GTS.

So, you're the reason that the Stagg I saw yesterday has gone from $55 to $75.:lol:

My rule with the antique collection is if I ever see them, by two bottles. The only ones I've managed to get my hands on are Stagg (got it once, two years ago, in a special promotion) and Sazerac 18 yo Rye.

You are so right. Just look at the current prices for current bottling on EBAY. When people are willing to pay $81-119.99 and $17-$20 for shipping on a $49 bottle, IMHO it makes the retailers increase the prices. SUPPLY AND DEMAND

On a serious note, very good pickup.

By the way, I just came back from the liquor store and picked up GTS and it was only $44.99!!!!:bigeyes: I couldn't believe it. I thought it was $55, but when the woman rang me up it was $44.99. I just double-checked my receipt to make sure.

I think this is the very same bottle that I saw on the liquor store's shelf a year ago. By the way, this is the 141.2 release (Fall '05).

What years are yours if you haven't already said (I'll recheck your initial post)?

A bottle just miraculously appeared in Erie PA (2006, 49.99). I called the store and he is putting it aside. I will have it shipped to the King of Prussia Wine and Spirits (for a nominal fee). The word of the day is 'Diligence'.

The quest? I could have sworn I saw some GTS on one of the web sites - hmm. Just checked and no luck. The main ones seems to be out, although I didn't check the California sellers.

Generally, spirits can not be shipped to PA; at least not legally (strictly speaking). Besides, some of the fun for me is in the hunt. So yes, the quest continues (for this and other bottles).
