Help me Choose

I'm eying up another 'premium' purchase (as opposed to my regular purchases which is either BT or EC12).

Right now, ER17 is on sale here in PA for 42.99. So my current decision (I've decided) is between that and Rock Hill Farm (price: 39.99). I have never tasted either. I have had a bottle of ERSB10 and I certainly enjoyed that.

I have read many good things about both these bourbons and I am confident that there is no bad decision here. But I'll put the question to the group, if you could buy only one bottle, and these two were your choices, which would it be?

Honestly I don't think I'd go with either. But if I had to choose it wouldn't be ER17, I personally am not a fan of it, sure it is tasty enough bourbon but I just don't see anything that jumps out at me making it worth that price. I actually preferred the 10 year SB and very much more the 10 year 101...

I must also say that my only experience with RHF was a tainted bottle that left me sour on that brand as well. That is the reason for my neither, but I am sure the RHF is good too many experienced pallets here agree on that for it not to be worthy. Have you given any thought to Hancocks Reserve? Had that for the first time a few weeks ago in a bar and very much liked it! It is next on my list to purchase...

Alas, I am limited to what is available in PA, and Hancocks is not. But I am also bent on getting something new (to me).

Hold the phone!! I just did a quick re-check and ER 17 is NOT on sale, stil 49.99. It was the ERSB10 1.75L that was on sale for 42.99.

Hmmmm, that changes the playing field a little. And further research has discovered that Baker's is a closeout item in PA and is being moved at the low, low price of 21.99. I think RHF will have to wait while I pick up a couple bottles of Baker's. But I would still be interested in this discussion.

Baker's is a favorite of many of us here. That is an incredibly low price for fine Beam whiskey. I think a road trip to PA is in order! :cool:

PA prices are much better than I realized - quite a bit better than VA at any rate.

I had a bottle of Rock Hills last summer and finished it fairly quickly. I don't remember much about it other than it was really good and I should get another bottle.

I've never been an ER 10 fan, although the 17 is very pleasant. But you are right, Christian, it's probably not worth the price.

PA prices are generally pretty good. I don't believe it was always that way, but it has improved. Now when they close something out, they slash price considerably to the point insanity. As in, you'd be crazy not to buy it. Witness a couple months ago when they closed out Hirsh 16 for 49.99 (from the original price of 69.99).

I believe this is the second reduction for Baker's. It was first reduced to around $32. It was only just re-reduced to the current price (I discovered it last night, literally in the middle of writing my second post). The down side of all this is that once the close out item is finally gone, it's gone forever from the state. Although you can apparently order non-stock items through a SLO program. One of these days I may have to test that program.

Rock Hill Farms is my current top favorite. Number one. The best.

ERSB10 is a favorite with me, why just last night I refreshed my memory why I like it.. In MI, the minimum price is $52.99 ($49.99 x 1.06)for a 1.75mL bottle.

You should appreciate the prices in PA.

Believe me, I do. Especially the more I look around. I was in Delaware a couple weeks ago and noticed that PA prices were slightly better (generally) but of course there is no sales tax in Delaware. They also had some selections not available in PA. That is where I picked up the Jefferson's Reserve.
