First William Larue Weller

I just had my first experience with William Larue Weller this weekend, and I must say, it's giving my previous favorite, PVW 15, a run for its money. Very nice indeed. You can tell I like the wheaters.

Which WLW? The 06 version, the 05, maybe the WLW 19?

Vange, do you have any opinion or info on the differences between these 3? Second, how many releases of the WLW are there? Just these 3 or are there more?

There were differences in age and proof of WLW 05 and 06, but both were confirmed to be BT distilled...The 2000-2002 W.L.Weller 19yo was a much different beast...90 proof, and likely S-W...and probably shouldn't be referred to as WLW to keep confusion down.

Between the 2 WLWs I prefer the 06, as the 05 seems overly sugary sweet to me, but I would happily trade either for the Weller 19 and it's spot-on balance and multi-layered flavors. Of course the Weller 19 can't fill the need when you want something with some firepower behind the flavors...probably best to have some of each on hand.

The 19 is going to be missed severly when my last half bottle is done. I would have paid double for it.

Good point about keeping WL 19 separate from WLW.

I also prefer the WLW 06 and by a longshot. I am pretty sure the 06 is a 15 year and the 05 was a 12 year.

They are easy to separate, one is Weller 19 and the other William Larue Weller. Bottle looks the same from a distance but up close it is easy to tell.
