...between Stagg (Fall '05) and William Larue Weller ('06), which would you choose. I know they are different in flavor but I'm just curious.

I've already had the '05 Stagg and I loved it and I should like the Weller '06 because it's a wheated bourbon.

Which would you take and why?

They're both equally difficult for me to acquire, so I would take either one. I've had each, and you can't go wrong with either. Both excellent bourbons.

I would take WLW-06 with I think is one of the best bourbons I ever had. It got everything one could expect from very good bourbon in a very individual stile. Kind of a mixture of everything. Smooth, complex and sophisticated but also punchy and broad shouldered. I do really like Stagg but for my personal taste fall-05 is too much “normal bourbon†and to less Stagg and therefore my list liked Stagg of the ones I have tasted.

Haven't tried the 06 WLW yet, but will change that soon. I was amazed by the 131.8 Stagg when I tried it, hope the 06 is as good!

If I absolutely had to choose... I'd go with the WLW 2006.

We really have to choose? WLW 2006 is my choice also, but I have no reason.

If you HAVE to choose, go for the Weller because it's rarer.

That said, thanks to the generosity of a California Straightbourboneer I tried the '05 Stagg and it was great. Not sure which itteration it was, but it was the good one. When forced to choose, always buy what you're less likely to see again. If there's a glut of Weller '06 at your local store take the last bottle of the Stagg and make a note to return for the Weller later.

I managed to lay in most of the '06 Antique Collection here in the NE but had to go to TN for the Weller.

Just my 2 cents.

The Weller because you have had the Stagg....gotta try them all!

Well, my Stagg is almost gone. Oh well, better get another. Of course, it's not that easy.

I'd pick the Weller. I remember the first time I tried it. I remember thinking "Holy Hell this is a barrel proof Stitzel-Weller". I heard a lot of stories, both ways, but I still believe (in my little world) that it is.

I have an '05 bottle of the Stagg but haven't opened it yet. I have an '06 bottle of Stagg and an '06 bottle of Weller both opened. Making the choice between the two, I would reach for the Weller. In my opinion, the Weller edges out the Stagg. Fortunately, I've loaded up on the '06 Stagg so will be enjoying that for some time. Unfortunately, I haven't come across the Weller in some time. I have 3 bottles of Weller and don't hold out hope of finding any more.
