NickAtMartinis
Can anyone here recommend a good wheater that can be found in any liquor store shelf in the country. This is as a result of a tireless search of hard to find bourbon, i.e., GTS, WLW (Antique Collection), PVW 10 107 and 15, etc. Frankly, I'm tired of trying to find the hard to find. What's good and easy to find that's a wheater.Any help is very much appreciated. Thank you.

smokinjoe
Makers MarkDitto. Although certainly not unanimously agreed upon by all, I do believe MM is better than good.Cheers!JOE
mozilla
Any of the wheat grain bourbons that have an age stated on the label, that is 6 years or older, are the ones that I would look for. Such as: VanWinkle, Fitz, WellerMakers should be available every where. Rebel Yell is a place to start...if you have not had a wheater before now. Look for high proof or age to stay in the proper flavor profile (Bib,107,90,SW).
gothbat
I can't really speak for their availability but I assume they are regularly available since the store by me always has them on the shelf (and I've purchased the last one or two on more than one occasion and found the supply replenished within days), Weller Antique 107 and Weller Centennial. If you can't find them them go with MM, it's a good bourbon and you should have no trouble finding it at all.
gblick
My vote would go to the Weller Antique 107. Of course, always be on the lookout for the Van Winkle and Old Fitzgerald too.

HighTower
Binny's can't send bourbon to our friends in Conn. Sorry! That's crazy. They will send it all the way over to Australia, but certain states are a no go zone!If I bump into George Bush while he's here for APEC I think I need to tell him the importance of all Americans being able to experience their national drink in mass quantities!A little off topic, yesterday some guys from a popular Australian TV show called "The Chaser" decided to have a little fun with the whole APEC thing going on. They drove 3 cars through the first security checkpoint in the high-security APEC zone, making out they were from Canada. When they got stopped at the 2nd security checkpoint, one of them got out of the car dressed as Osama. Needless to say, they have been placed into lockdown until APEC is over for the security breach. Not the first time they have all been arrested for stupid stunts, and I would say it wont be the last! If you want to see some crazy Australians doing ever crazier things check out some of their videos on youtube. Search for "Chaser's war on everything"Scott
mozilla
Who'da thunk it? Laws in America. I don't think GW had anything to do with that one, though, someone voted on it.
NickAtMartinis
Thanks for the help everyone. It's much appreciated.I tried MM as my very first bourbon a couple years ago and hated it. But, my palate has definitely changed so I think I will give it a try again. Also, would you choose Bookers over MM?Question on Old Fitz. Is it hard to come by? Are there varities (I assume so) and who is the distiller? Thanks for the help.I'll do some research as well.
Aged In Oak
I tried MM as my very first bourbon a couple years ago and hated it. But, my palate has definitely changed so I think I will give it a try again. Also, would you choose Bookers over MM? Maker's is definitely worth a visit if you haven't had it in a while. It's not my favorite bourbon by a long shot, but it's pretty good. I wouldn't turn down a glass if someone offered me one (my favorite kind of booze: free!). I think it's also useful to have a serious taste of it in your mental notebook so you can use it to compare with other wheated bourbons. As for Booker's vs. Maker's, I'd say that's a personal choice. Booker's has a much higher proof and more assertive flavor. If you like that in your bourbon, I'd say Booker's is worth a try. Booker's is also significantly more expensive, which may or may not make a difference to you. Personally, I'd prefer to have Booker's, but then I like a bourbon with more heat and bite. Your mileage may vary.
T47
Also, would you choose Bookers over MM?If your interested in a wheater, and your having trouble finding the others, I would revisit Makers. I think it has great flavor and is smooth. Not as smooth or sweat as some of the others, but still a good representative of the wheaters. And taste buds certainly change.I don't see any comparison between Bookers and Makers except for they are both Bourbons. For me totaly different flavor profiles, and Bookers would be considered a more Rye heavy Bourbon...That being said Bookers is one of my favorites. A little less exspensive, a little less in your face, but along the same lines (more rye), give Bakers a try. Very nice flavor Brown Sugar...:toast:
