My brother swears he saw an Elvis decanter containing Beam bourbon, and is wanting one for himself. I have been unable to locate one. Could anyone verify whether they exist, and where I might find one?

Thanks,

Tim

Elvis decanters exist....believe me. They are on ebay all the time. I can't recall if they were Beam's for sure, but my guess is "yes", as I've seen a Beam Elvis Cadillac for sale in a local store in Houston.

I instantly think of the opening line of a George Jones song: "Last night I broke the seal on a Jim Beam decanter that looked like Elvis". (Yes I have listened to a lot of George.) One of the more unique choruses in that song too: "Yabba dabba doo, the King is gone and so are you". Ah, country music.

Ron,

That line is less bizarre when taken in context with other references and rhymes in the song. But not much.

A couple more references to this marvelous piece of Americana follow: one, two.

The song is what prompted the search, but it sounds like such a bottle never existed and they were all McCormick decatures. Given that the contents of some bottlings can come from more than one source, is it possible that any of these did actually contain Beam bourbon? Would there be a way to tell?

It's possible that Chuck Cowdery could answer that question. I have no idea.

I was working with Beam when that song came out. Everyone liked it a lot and didn't mind the fact that Beam never made an Elvis decanter, and that McCormick was the company that did. George wrote and sang a fine song that made a good point. Sometimes artistic truth is truer than true truth.
