Hi there, I was wondering if any one knows how old Crown Royal's XR is and Wiser's 150 anniversary red letter bottle is? i'm trying to search for this on the internet, but can't find it. I emailed Wiser but i'm not getting any replies. I can't even find any email address for CR. anyone know how long these whiskeys have been aged?

thanks,

John

The label of XR does not state an age (nor for any other CR iteration). Red Letter also to the best of my recollection does not state an age. Some producers will tell you if you ask, some perfer not to. E.g., John Hall told me that Forty Creek's new Small Batch Reserve contains whiskies of between 15 and 6 years aged. His Barrel Select contains whiskies of between 6 and 10 years, I understand. Crown Royal has I believe a website but I am not sure if you can direct inquiries to them via that site. Not sure about Wiser's, it is part of Corby whose brands are made in Walkerville by Hiram Walker (now owned by Beam Brands Global), and this is all I can say. That said however, I would say XR, the new CR Cask No. 16 and Red Letter do contain some well-aged whiskies.

I think the best bet in Toronto to find Red Letter and Cask No. 16, as well as XR, is either the Queen's Quay, Summerhill or Bayview and Shephard LCBOs.

The XR whiskey all comes from Waterloo, which closed in 1992, there's a way to calculate minimum age (based on when it was bottled). Assuming they kept it in the wood all this time.
