Meet us at My Old Kentucky Dinner Train Restaurant, Bardstown, KY, at 10 AM.

And prepare to be impressed.

We will be transported to the LABROT & GRAHAM Distillery near Versailles where we'll meet with Master Distiller Lincoln Henderson and Distiller-In-Training Chris Morris.

L & G makes the award winning Woodford Reserve and is preparing to launch a new generation of whiskeys from their stunning distillery. Woodford Reserve has won numerous small batch whiskey honors and medals since 1996.

This special forum-only invitation includes Lunch, a tour of L & G and a sit down tasting with the distillers. And yes, we will get a taste of something very special. But it's a surprise.

Ken Weber, brand manager at Buffalo Trace Distillery, has extended an invitation to forum members who missed last year's trip to BT (or wish to go again). Ken will pick up anyone interested after the L & G event, and go from there to BT, just 20 minutes away.

That's right friends. Back to back tours -- if you can handle it!

But you must let me know. And you must be in Bardstown at 10 AM Sept. 19th.

Damn, I been waiting for my "Welcome to Bourbonia! :You are now and illustrious member of the Straightbourbon Forum" Button in the mail, but as of this morining , no luck .

But in all seriousness, if this is an invite to even the lowly peasants of bourbonia like me than you have most likely convinced me (& more importantly my Wife) to make the trip to the bourbon festival. Tonight as we cracked open and enjoyed our VERY FIRST bottle of Woodford Reserve, the first thing that came to mind (after WOW does this stuff rock!) was "Wouldn't it be cool to meet the guy responsible for this fine drink. I log on an VIOLE, a dream come true. So we will be making an appearance in Bardstown (barring financial collapse) most likely for the 19th & 20th and hope to do both legs of this.

We are gonna be there only on the 19th & 20th (and the late part of the 18th from like 2 pm on as well as earlier in the day on the 21st, till 4 or 5), already made reservations at the Best Western in Bardstown. Because my wifes college classes start on the 23rd, so sadly we cant stay longer, also much longer than 2 & 1/2 days gets cost prohibitive. You guys Lemme know what is going on when as it gets closer and I'll be damned if we dont try to get to as much as possible.

Although I'm a new member, I feel I know most of you through a old friend at work, Kauf. Many a discussion at the water cooler involved the pros and cons of scotch vs. bourbon, and after about 14 months of being on the fence, I find myself, at the end of the day, opening the bourbon side of the liquor cabinet instead of the scotch side. Whiskeyfest, in Chicago, confirmed what most of you learned at a early age or just had a natural yearning, bourbon is the only way to cap off either a remarkably poor day or one of those rare great days.

After much begging, whining, negotiating, and a "honey do list" that doubled in size, my lovely wife has graciously allow me to accompany the Kauf to Bourbonfest this fall. Both our better halfs have not reached that point in life where tasting great bourbon is not worth burning vacation. So it's looks like it's is going to be a guy's road trip. (Sure beats swatting mosquitoes on a Canadian fishing trip) But I digress.

I would like to throw in my name in on the back to back tasting at L&G on the 19th. Since WR is in my top five and almost has become my "daily pour", I would look forward to actually seeing the nursery where they mature the essence into what has become an old friend.

I hope there's still room, if not, I guess I can stay back and watch the golf channel (with a bottle of Laphroaig)

Please, don't let me slip back to the dark side.

Jeff the fact that you're drinking Woodford Reserve and that you're comming to the Bourbon Festival with Bob Kaufman are all postive signs.

You still need help. The fact that you have sc**ch in your house is a very dangerous thing. Lucky for you I'm here. Yes Jeff; you need a bourbonic shaman (such as myself) to help you drive away the demonic spirits of barley whisky from your life. There's not a moment to spare so listen closely.

You are in luck as the planets are comming into close alignment and the new moon on the 14th all come into play as I reach the height of my mystical powers for 2002. You must follow my instructions exactly if you are to shed the darkness forever.

1) With the cold water running in your kitchen sink pour all of you sc**ch and canadian stuff down the drain, followed by Liquid Plumber. Continue to flush with colld water for at least twenty minutes.

2) Gather all the empty bottles and take them outside. Use a five pound sledgehammer to pound the bottles to bits! Collect all of the shards.

3) Build a campfire. Deposit all of the collected shards upon the flames. This is purification by fire.

4) Place a goodly amount of tobbacco on top of the shards in the fire. Virginia tobbacco is reccomended, but Carolina or Kentucky tobbacco will also do. -> This is very important! -> Listen -> Tobbacco is the spiritual herb of Mother Earth. As the tobbacco begins to smoke offer the smoke to the four winds and also to the Earth. Be sure to pull the smoke toward you and around you as you would a blanket.

5) -> Now pay close attention -> Light four sparklers in your right hand. They represent the corn; rye, wheat, and malt. In your left hand hold an ear of corn with the shucks pulled down about halfway. Now dance around the fire in a primative fashion with wild rythmic pulsating pelvic thrusts.

6) Now chant this encantation seven times as you are dancing and while the sparklers burn - "Hail Bourbon! Nectar of Corn. Hail Bourbon! Of chared oak born. Hail Bourbon! On copper wings sail. Hail Bourbon! Your soul'l never fail."

7) After the sparklers have burned out take a big drink of bourbon.

And there you have it. You can thank me in Bardstown.

As I read your hilarious prescription for casting out the evil of peat, spoiled barley, and second-hand oak barrels, I recalled the old comedy routine by Andy Griffiths ("HAIL, Ceasar!" , an' I say, "Hay-yal, ye-es!").

One minor clarification, though: Shouldn't "Pants away!" come _before_ step 5?

Dave whenever you're dancing with sparklers it is advisable to keep both your pants and shirt on.

Many people use the ever popular 'Cheers' as an ending for their posts, but I like "Pants Away!". It's original, and all mine. So if you see anyone else outside of this forum using it please kick their ass for me.
