Hi there, is the Crown Royal XR at $180 worth buying for my collection of unopened Canadian Whisky?

also, for the Cask No. 16, will they be making this every year or is this the only batch they will make?

Ha! A bottle of Crown Royal for $180.00. It had better come with the girls to share it with for that kind of money.

No. Even here in Tennessee, it's available at $150 or so -- and I'd bet you can talk a lot of retailers into a discount, considering how much whisky at that price turns over.

discount? ya right, we're talking about the LCBO, its government run. forget it. but has anyone tried the XR? is it good? and is the cask no. 16 a one time offering or yearly?

1) The LCBO does have sales - Red Tag sales and Delist sales though these are for products that do not shift. As an example, Famous Grouse 18yr Scotch has gone from $90 to $70 and is now $55cdn while supplies last.

2) Crown Royal XR is quite simply the most sublime Cdn whisky I've ever had beating out Wiser's Red Label by a small margin. Is it worth $180 cdn to drink? I would give a resounding "NO" given what else I can afford at $180. Will the value of the XR go up given that it's a special release? I'd think yes.

Short answer - if you're a drinker then no. If you're a collecter then perhaps depending on what else you can get (I for one would get the 6th Release Port Ellen at the LCBO @ $275 if I was a collecter).

3) I think the Crown Royal Cask no.16 is a brand not a limited release. Not sure about this though.

do you know how old it is?

I don't recall if it has an age statement, but its (XR) made from the last batch of whiskey distilled at the Waterloo distillery which was mothballed in 1992 and burned down in 1993. Like most Canadians, its a blend, so buyer beware.
