How many bottles do you drink per year?

What happens if you never finish a bottle, but keep on buying, and the ones that get low you place into 4 oz or minis to keep forever?

It's like the math puzzle: How long would it take if every minute you moved closer from pt. A to pt. B, by one half the distance?

But to answer the query, I'd say around a dozen. Or perhaps a baker's dozen (whatever that amount is--I think more than 12).

I'm with you.....but, if I had more time it could get dangerous......good thing I work 6 days a week.

Only 6? I work 7 days a week and drink 10 of those.

"I" probably "finish" 35-55 bottles a year. My good friend, the occasional visitor, and I probably polish off darn close to 70 a year.

I've never kept track, but at my current rate of consumption (which I watch pretty closely), it should work out to about 32-33 750ml bottles per year.

At first blush that seems like an awful lot, even to me, but if I did the arithmetic correctly, I'm still squeaking in under the gov't definition of "moderation" for a man, which is up to two 1.5oz drinks of 80 proof spirits per day. (Not that that's my limit; rather, it's a point of reference, for discussion purposes.)

Well, I don't feel bad about finishing a fifth (or a liter, depending on the week.) in seven days now. But that slows after the weather gets warm. I figger mebbe 5 months of that rate of consumption, and the rest of the year, it's beer or wine, with the odd flirtation with cocktails, like margaritas, and vodka/gin and tonics.

About 20 bottles at home and about 20 bottles at work per year.

Side Note: Our liquor manager at work cleaned out the back shelves and gave me several bottles (2 WTRB and 2 RR) for the new year. Free bourbon is the best bourbon. :cool:

Hard to tell here since I'm generally pouring from alternate bottles, not the same one nightly. However, I toss one out about once every 7-10 days, so I guess we'll go with that. That likely works out to somewhere between 40-60 bottles a year.

As generous as you are with your bourbon this does not surprise me at all.:drink:

I'm not sure about how many bottles I drink. My drinking habits are fairly predictable but due to many factors sometimes they do change for a few months or weeks at a time. Reading what everyone else typed in this thread I'm probably pretty up there. Anyway, I think that this year I will try and keep a log of what I finished and when. This will likely turn out like my What are you Drinking Now Database idea but I'll do my best... Anything already open will be counted but also noted that it was not full at the beginning of 08'.

Guzzling just exercises your liver, not necessarily your taste buds.

The great thing about drinking whiskey is that a tiny sip can give you an explosion of flavor that lingers for 5 to 10 minutes. I drink much less when I'm drinking straight than when mixing or drinking merely fermented beverages.

Ditto that, Roger and, any more, I almost never mix. Bourbon or Laphroaig.... neat.

By my count I'm WAY down from "the old days" (and even that was only around 20 bottles per year). Maybe 10 bottles per year these days and most of those are shared. But I make up for quantity with quality and, at this rate, I ALWAYS choose one of my better options.

As a related aside, MBW can't understand why there are 50 bottles in the pantry "You don't even drink them very often, why do you keep so many?". You guys know, you get them when you can. Three years from now I'll have a pour of Tribute or '05 Stagg and just smile.....

I tell my wife the alternative is to drink heavily to clear the decks for the new arrivals. She'd much rather have a lot of mostly full bottles on the hutch than a lot of empties in the recycling.

I agree with you in general but it was straight whiskey (mixed with a couple of bong rips) that put me under the table a little earlier than I would have liked on NY Eve. Let's just say my wife was a little peeved since we were hosting a party at my house...Doh! Won't make that mistake again.

It's really hard to tell since I tend to share my stock with friends and family. I myself don't drink heavily and typically pour an ounce or so 2-3 times a week so I don't go through bottles very fast. However, when the family men get together, we tend to make a good dent in a number of bottles.
