Hello everyone -- I am a new novice here, so please bear with me if this issue has already been discussed. I did a search, and did not find what I am looking for.

Does anyone know how many editions of Jim Murray's Whiskey Bible have been published?

I have three of these books:

Whiskey Bible 2004, published in 2003, ISBN 1844429172, or 1-84442-917-2

Whiskey Bible 2005, published in 2004, ISBN 1844426416, or 1-84442-641-6

Whiskey Bible 2006, published in 2005, ISBN 1844423816, or 1-84442-381-6

My copy of the Whiskey Bible 2006 also has a stamp on the front cover that says "3rd year". However, the ISBN number on my copy of this book seems to have been discontinued or something. When I search Amazon or used book sites with ISBN 1844423816, or 1-84442-381-6, I get nothing.

Instead, on Amazon, the Whiskey Bible 2006 "3rd year" edition seems to have the ISBN numbers 1844421260, or 1-8442-126-0, or 9781844421268, or 9781-94442-126-8.

Does anyone know what’s up with these ISBN numbers for the Whiskey Bible 2006?

Now I see on Amazon an edition called the Whiskey Bible 2008, with "5th" stamped on the front cover, although I cannot read what it says under “5thâ€, so I don’t know if it says “5th edition†or “5th year†or what.

The ISBN numbers for the Whiskey Bible 2008 are listed on Amazon as ISBN 1844421864, or 1-84442-186-4, or 9781844421862, or 978-184442-186-2.

Was there ever a Whiskey Bible 2007 ? - which would be the 4th edition or 4th year, I guess.

Thank you –

Gregg

Looks like you have all of them starting from the beginning.

On my trip to KY for the Bardstown sampler, I found a copy of the '07 in the Buffalo Trace gift shop. You could call them to check for a copy.

From what I've gathered Murray's bible and website operation is less than smooth. He's promised a working website for years and only now has something of an active site. It still has holes in it though.

Looks to me like you can order the '08 at the site.

As for the ISBN question, I'm not sure. It may have something to do with it being published in the UK. The '07 I got in KY was UK only.

The WhiskyCast.com podcast recently had an interview with Murray if you're interested. And a year or so back was a two part, more in depth interview as well

Cheer!

Thanks.

I did some more poking around, and did find the 4th year version. The problem was that for some reason my used book source had the 4th year version spelled as the "Whisky Bible 2007", so I kept missing it when searching for the Whiskey Bible -- strange since they spell all the other editions as the Whiskey Bible.

The Whiskey Bible 2007 has the ISBN 1844421473, or 1-84442-147-3, or 9781844421473, or 978-184442-147-3.

So if this information is correct, there have been to date five editions of this book.

On Thursday Dec 20 I ordered the 2008 Whisky Bible from Amazon.

It was noted that it was published Oct 1, 2007 and they were in stock but they would not ship until Jan 21-31 of 2008.

Which is odd because I ordered another book along with it and they said shipping on that one would be Dec 24.

If you check the introduction to the '07 bible, Murray gives a big thanks to Neal (from our west coast study group), who gave him a vintage Old Overholt bottle, that Murray almost lost IICRC.

Way to go Neal! And cheers to the WCSG (our Whiskey group)!!!!!

Let us know how the '08 bible compares, by the way.

Yeah, I ordered the Whisky Bible 2008 from Amazon.com weeks ago, and still do not have it. Estimated delivery date is either late this week, or early in January.

The only review of Old Overholt I see in the Whisky Bible 2007 is (on page 301) for the Old Overholt 4 yr old straight rye. Rating of 86, with an interesting statement: "used to be so much more in your face and full of character". Maybe he compared it to the vintage one.

It seems Mr Murray has signed on with a new distributor recently, so it seems like there should be one on the way.

I have the 2007 and 2008. If you are looking for scotch reviews, I concur with many of his choices. For bourbon he tends to despise the over-aged stuff (15+) and loves Stagg. His Pappy ratings are bizarre to me especially the 20 year. I do not concur with many of his bourbon reviews. All in all, a nice guide. I try to steer away from his scores and focus on his notes.

My most recent Murray book is from '97 (reprinted 2000)...think it's time for a new one?
