buying advice for Pappy 23 yr old

See if the glass on any of them is tinted green. iirc if the glass is green then it's from the first release and there is rye recipe bourbon inside rather than the typical wheat.

In addition to 'green tinted glass' bottles, look for any with Lawrenceburg on the label vs Frankfort.

Get any and all with green glass and/or Lawrenceburg labels.

Have you had Pappy 23? Do you like it?

If you answered "yes" to both these questions, buy as many as you can justify.

If you answered "no" to the first, then you should consider picking one up to try, then buy more depending on your reaction to the second question.

• The foil top is the most recent edition. If the wax-top is pre-letter-prefix, it's the 2003 bottling, and second (or fourth or fifth, I guess:cool: ) only to the original 1999 (rye-recipe) and the SB.com single-barrels, in my opinion;

As far as under-selling goes, I know that I can get 4 cases of PVW23 for $100 per bottle. If I were to buy less than the case, it would be $110.

I know at least one guy here is interested in one bottle. The last I spoke of the the retailers, it was still available. That was only one week ago so I'm sure I'm more than good. Especially given the fact that I'm surrounded by non-bourbon drinking people. What I don't know is how old the bottles are. I do know that they are a mix of gold wax and foil but don't know the ratio or the years.

I've tried the Pappy 23 (wasn't aware of different bottlings, so I don't know which one I had) and I actually prefer the 20 year.

The wood tannings of the 23 are off-putting to me.

My advice: If possible, try before you buy. See if there's a bar or restaurant which has it, and try a little bit and see how you like it.
