B.Crow
Fairly new to bourbon and was excited about trying the stagg for the first time.Well it looks like i'm out of luck on the stagg this year in Oregon. Looks like what few bottles (6) the beaverton store got sold out that day :smiley_acbt: Called around and couldn't find any in portland either. I did pick up the last 2 bottles of pappy 15 yr ($49) so not all is lost. They had a lot of van winkle 12 yr lot b too for $42 - Would you guys recommend picking a few bottles of that up too?? It seems we rarely get pappy's here in oregon and this is the first time I have seen any pappys other than the 20 and 23.
Special Reserve
Van Winkle Special Reserve Lot B is fabulous bourbon. It is my go to high end bourbon. At $42/bottle you should stock up only if you like smooth, delicious, highly pleasing 90 proof bourbon. I'll take three.I always tell people who ask if the bottle has the words "Van Winkle" on the label it's great bourbon.By the way welcome to the board. Read and learn. I see you've been lurking. Will
Bailey
Crow: Welcome to the Board from your neighbor to the North. Nice pickup on the Pappy15 for $49. FWIW I would probably buy a bottle of Lot B for $42, especially if you haven't tried it before. Then again, depending upon your budget you may want to try something a little different. The most recent two bottles of Woodford Reserve I have had were spectacular. At $32 (here in Washington) you could pocket the extra $10 and put it towards your next purchase. If budget is not a concern buy em all and let your tastebuds sort them out. Roger

B.Crow
Thanks for the input guys- I have been lurking around this board for about 5 months or so and finally signed up. I really like the pappy 15 so I will probably pick up a bottle of the lot b. This is a great place for bourbon info and has really aided in expanding my tastes for bourbon! Sijan
All Van Winkle bourbon is good bourbon. Grab a few bottles of the Van Winkle 12 year old if you can afford it.And I'm sure I'm not alone in stating that I'd rather have Pappy 15 than Stagg most any day. Stagg is very good, but Pappy 15 is one of my top 2 or 3 bourbons ever.
squire
I'll take the Pappy over the Stagg if I have the choice. Van Winkle is one of the few brands that have stood out for me over the years. About 15 years ago I offered a guest a drink made from Old Rip Van Winkle. He opted for Makers instead and politely chastised me for trying to foist off on him some no name stuff when "Everybody knows Makers Mark is the best". Before it was well known we used to get Van Winkle for a ridiculously low price in relation to its quality.Squire
