Howdy,

Today I took the plunge and bought my first Small batch bourbon: Knob Creek. Until now it's been JBW,JBB WT101 and Dickel's 12.

I put about 2 oz. in my Diet Coke as a nightcap every evening. I refuse to indulge 'til after I pick my wife from work this evening, so I haven't even tried it yet, but I'm anxious!

I've pretty much settled on JBB and WT101 as my Diet Coke additive before bedtime; how does KC compare for all of you? Is it worth the $26.99 I paid? Ultimately I must be the judge, but I want your opinions on this high-end Beam product.

It's worth it. It will make a superior bourbon and Coke, and drinks very well on its own. Enjoy.

KC is a good bourbon. But, Hopefully, with your time here you will find many other bourbons with better tastes and price points for you.

here's to your journey !!!!:icon_pidu:

Of the more "popular" brands, I like Knob better than, say, Woodford or Maker's.

For about the same price, there's Eagle Rare 10 yr old. For a few more $ you can try Four Roses Small Batch. Go a little higher and there's Pappy van Winkle 15 yr old and 4R Single Barrel. Enjoy!!

KC is good and the price you purchased it at is well worth the plunge.

Due to your thread, I do believe I amy indulge in the open bottle of KC.

Hopefully, it's as good as I remember. It's been a while.

Knob Creek is a very full flavored 100 proofer, and is great neat.

If dumping whiskey into a diet coke, the cheapest would be the best choice.

Try baby sipping the K.C. savor the flavor, and then drink the diet coke!

I like Knob Creek. Like it a lot, in fact; it goes down well for someone who was "raised," so to speak, on Wild Turkey. Until recently it was coming close to replacing WT101 as my baseline bourbon, and at your $26.99 price point, it probably would. But it now costs $32.99 here in Alabama, and the WT Rare Breed that I've recently discovered is only $3 more, so I won't be drinking KC nearly as much as I used to.

Knob Creek is my pick of the Beam small batch line. On the other hand, at least four times out of five I'll reach right past it and select the regular Beam black label instead.

Howdy,

Just an update. I tried the KC in my Diet Coke and it did taste different. I probably had too much Diet Coke in it to properly assess the flavor of the Bourbon.

So, I tried a little of the KC "neat". Well, to this Bourbon tenderfoot, there was burn followed by a woody flavor. Imagine biting into the branch of a Maple tree which had been soaked in Jim Beam Black! Pretty good stuff, actually.

A good analysis. The burn and woody was a little more than I expected last time there was a bottle in the house. It is pretty good stuff though. Maybe it is time to revisit. Lots of discussion here on KC on a pretty regular basis I have noticed.

Interesting comment. What's the reason you do this? Do you prefer the JBB over the KC, or is it a bang-for-buck decision, or ...???

I've yet to try any JBB. But as it's one of the few remaining viable choices available to me here, I expect the time is coming soon.

Howdy,

I've decided that while I like KC, I don't think it's cost suprerior to JBB. I can get a JBB for about half the price of KC. I mix my Bourbon in Diet Coke for a nightcap and JBB or even JBW will do fine for mixing duties.

Neat, KC isn't twice as good as JBB. Sorry if I'm sounding too critical of KC. YMMV and surely will.

Howdy,

Oops, I was wrong about KC costing double JBB. Actually KC is only about 40% more expensive, but I'll still take JBB even for that difference.
