Carried at Rite-aid?

I am from central kentucky with the closest place to get bourbon being the local rite-aid. What are some good bourbons on a budget that are carried at rite-aid?

The closest thing to bourbon I can get at Rite-Aid in Tennessee is cough syrup.

Evan Williams -- especially black, but notwithstanding green -- is nothing to sneeze at.

The Rite-Aid by me, in Lexington, carries most of the middle and bottom shelf brands, with a limited supply of Top Shelf Stuff.

The Barton line is fully represented, the 100 proof version being a bargain favorite. Check out behind the register for the more exotic offerings. Mine has four bottles of Woodford Sonoma Cutrer Chardonnay finish whiskey at the going price of about ~$90.

Evan Williams, Old Charter, Heaven Hill, Buffalo Trace, Woodford are all represented.

A fair selection.

May I ask what EW Black retails for in other parts of the country? Here it is a mere $10.99 for a 750, which I consider a genuine bargain considering it is, as Tim says, nothing to sneeze at.

EW Black is around $18-19 for a 1.75 , im not sure what other brands are offered because it is a fairy long drive. EW, Rebel yell, w.l. weller maybe, does anyone in the area know any more of the moderate to cheaper bourbons they carry?

Try the Old Forester, I think it is very good foor the money. Makers is available, try it if you haven't allready.

Wild Turkey 101 is good.

Actually, if W.L. Weller 7-yo is available, I'd suggest it over Maker's (even if it weren't cheaper, which it is). Tim (TNBourbon) turned me back onto this stuff with a VBT (speaking of which, when is another of those going to happen?) some months ago. A great wheater with an age statement. No marketing behind it, really, but it flies off the shelves around here (seen exactly one L'ville bottle in my dusty hunting, as opposed to 50 or so Weller 107s), and with good reason. Not earth-shattering, but a fine choice.

I don't know what else is carried at your Rite-Aid, but WT 101 is most everywhere, and as Kendall said, it's good. Even great, some might say (and I'd not argue).

I would definately not recommend the Old Forester. I may actually prefer to drink turpentine. I think it is the worst bourbon available bar none.

Back in 2003 during a trip to Kentucky, I stopped at a Rite Aid to get something and was suprised to see a whiskey aisle. I remember seeing the bottles of Four Roses bourbon and bought one on the spot. They had a reasonably good selection!

just went to the local CVS pharmacy....they had woodford, makers, knob creek, bulleit, old forester, early times, evan williams....anyone know anything about bulleit?

Bulleit is a Diageo product, made at Four Roses, from a high-rye bourbon mash bill. It's much more sophisticated than its "frontier whiskey" name would suggest. I like it. You can find out a lot more about it by using the StraightBourbon Search function.

I also second (third?) the argument AGAINST OF86. Ugh. Seriously.

How about Dowlings Deluxe 8yr Bib, Rittenhouse Rye 80 or 100, Virgin bourbon 101, Four Roses, JTS Brown Bib, Heaven Hill Bib, TW Samuals Bib. All are good to great and at a reasonable price.

oh BTW, don't forget Ancient Age Bib. It is alot better than the reports give it credit.

Here in Shreveport/Bossier City, La., Jim Beam White is available at Rite-Aid. It's acceptable as a Cola additive for my money. In fact, this is my usual night-cap: 2 oz. JBW in a glass of Diet Coke w/ ice. it's a nice "liquid sleeping pill"

Out of that group, I'd go with the Bulleit first and Woodford second. All a matter of taste.
