spun_cookie
Does anyone know or recall when WT101 "Old No. 8" stopped being the good ole 8yo that we all know and love? The 8yr went up into 1992. In early 1992 the bottles started to change. Not all at teh same time. The flat 375s and 200s first. The round 375s, 750s and 1L is changes a little later. All were changed by the end of 1992Look for the date on the bottles for the Old #8. That is good up through 1993 that I know of. By 1995 it changed and the 1997 (I have one) is not so good. Not much better than what you can get today ... and I wonder if it is not worse...The 8yr from 88-91 is a little better than the Old number 8 from 1992-1993, but I love that Old number 8 as well. Really good stuff.....I personally leave 1995s and newer Old number 8s on the shelf. They just do not taste good to me.I have a couple 1997 1.75L Old No 8's , yes they are better than todays 101 but I wouldn't say by much! 1992 was the introduction of the No.8 brand and if you find any that old grab em they are still stellar...Right Em??:grin:TonyYes sir!!! craigthom
If it says "Old No. 8" instead of 8yo, then it isn't 8yo. They changed the label when they changed the age.
spun_cookie
If it says "Old No. 8" instead of 8yo, then it isn't 8yo. They changed the label when they changed the age.... ahhh, not so true, at least from what I can tell from the bottles I found. They started the label change before they changed the juice.I picked up a case of 375 from a place in Hawaii. In the box with running date and time stamps in order I had 8 yr, 8yr, 8yr, #8, #8, #8, #8, #8, #8, #8, #8, #8. Labels are a nightmare to change and they used up their old stock before they used up the juice. If you put the 8yr at the end next to the #8 as the begining, there is no difference. 12 months in (1993 bottles) you can tell the difference, but still very good juice. By 2004 it is no question a diffrent juice. By 97 it is not so good... I have a handle from 97 that I will never finish. Even as a first drink of the night, it is a hard drinker.... I like the new 101 over it.I did just get a 1/2 bottle of current 8 yr from BGJ. I want to do a stack up of 75 8 yr (got a mini on ebay), 89/90 8yr, and the new version.. should be fun.
