I have a friend travelling to Memphis who has agreed to buy me some Bourbon (or rye, or Tenn.), and I'm excited to find some stuff that we don't get in California. I'm wondering if everyone can help me out with a few questions:

What is the best liquor store in Memphis?

Any chance of finding BT experimental in the city?

Any other good things I should look for that are not available nationally?

I go thru there a few times a month with my work and can give you some info (although someone who lives there could probably provide more). Also, my mom and sister live there which provides a weekend every now and then in which to shop when I visit them.

Anywho, the largest store that I am aware of in Memphis is "Buster's" near the corner of Poplar Ave & Highland St which is near the University of Memphis. Every time I go there, Buster's is on my list of stores to visit because of their large inventory. There are some other good ones such as "Natalie's Liquor Warehouse", south on Germantown Pkwy off of I-40 on the east side of town heading toward Nashville. Also, there is a store named "Caesar's" with a good selection of just about everything. It is on Hwy 64 which is also off I-40 east heading out of town toward Nashville. I probably visit that one more than any other because I head home going east on 64 and my car seems to just pulls in there every time.

Hope this helps a little. There are probably a lot of other stores there but those are the main ones I visit and know about. Maybe someone else will provide some addt'l info for you.

Lamplighter hit some of the best ones. Busters is the biggest, I was in there last Thur. They had Pappy 15, 20, 23, lot b, 4 or 5 American Spirits, Russells Rye, a couple different BMH's. All the BTAC's, and lots of other stuff, that is usual to me, but might not be for you. I got and Experimental there last year. They are high though. I picked up a Weller 12 (first one I've seen in a while) and Rittenhouse Rye, and a Citadelle Gin.

Natalie's, and Ceasar's have a nice selection, been a while since I have been in either. All three are in different parts of town.

There are some other places just out of town, in Olive Branch( lot better prices). I got a Parker's and a Ritthenhouse 23 out there a couple of weeks ago.

There are a lot of places all over town. I haven't seen any Four Roses anywhere yet though.

Anything specific that your looking for, I might could help you out.

Wskybnt, you and Oscar are making me hungry for some of that BBQ! Have not been to the Rendezvous in a number of years, but, there is nothing like it in terms of BBQ and atmosphere......downtown, history and best of all, the blues.

The last time I was in Buster's, they were completely out of Ritt BIB and had no idea when they would be getting some. Good to hear they do now. I will probably be thru there towards the end of the month......will have to slide by there and pick up a bottle and maybe something else interesting will catch my eye as well.

Thanks for all the recs. I sent my friend to Buster's. They didn't have BT Experimental or Four Roses, but he got me a Very Old Barton 100 proof, now one of the few west of the Mississippi.
