Hey there folks,

I'm going down to Telford, TN next week and want to check out some stores for bourbons that I might not be able to get up here in the Northeast. I've hit up a google map below and am willing and able to travel up to about 2 hours in any direction. I'm also looking for a store that I might be able to score Four Roses in -- I know this'll have to be in KY, right? 'S'okay with me.

Map it!

Thanks for your help!

Hey Jeff looks from the map it! McScrooge's is with in your 2 hour drive in Knoxville. Their hand selected Four Roses is stellar! I would recommend more than one bottle of it for on your trip! If not, when you get home you'll wish you did.

Have a great trip!

I'm pretty sure Four Roses now has distribution in Tennessee. I'm sure Tim (TNBourbon) has said it's available there.

There is a store on the left just as you enter Gatlinburg. It has all the Four Roses flavors and a lot more besides.

Speaking of Four Roses, I was dusty hunting this afternoon when I happened upon an old liquor store. Of course, no dusties to be found inside but the woman behind the counters said the owner sold a Four Roses bottle not too long ago. So, I asked how long it had been around. Laughing, she said since her days in High School. This woman was no spring chicken!;)

So, it must have been 25+ years old and not the good stuff, from what I've gathered about Four Roses of old.

Ok, here's the write-up for the trip. To me, the collections in the Johnson City/Greenville/Telford, TN area were pretty darn good. Part of this, I will recognize, is because you Southerners just have to many more labels available to you. But all in all, the best all around collections were One Stop in Johnson City and Plaza Package Store (also, J.C., located next to Libation Station, the best Beer store that I've ever found south of the Mason-Dixon). I also visited the bleak Colonel Steve's (J.C., I believe), Big Time Beverage (Greenville), and Parkway Discount Wine & Liquor (across the street from One Stop in J.C.). Although Parkway DW&L is disappointing, they did have nips of BT and Blantons SB!

Highlights from One Stop's offerings: PVW 23, Henry McKenna SB, BMH Gold Wax (don't recall the age/proof but it was $120), FR Yellow, Small batch and SB, and of course McCormick's Straight Corn Whiskey (ha!).

Highlights from Plaza Package Store: Woodford Reserve Sonoma Cutrer Finish, Old Charter The Classic 90, miniture of JDSB.

Ok, for my final haul:

Old Forester 4 yr 86 proof 200mL (B-F, Louisville, KY)

T. W. Samuels 6 yr 90 proof 200mL (Bardstown, KY)

*Old Charter 8 yr 80 proof 200mL (Frankfort, KY)

*Old Charter The Classic 90 12 yr 90 proof 375mL (Frankfort, KY)

J. W. Dant Bib 100 proof 375mL (No age statement, Bardstown, KY)

Very Old Barton 80 proof 375mL (No age, Bardstown & Owensboro, KY)

Very Old Barton Bib 100 proof 6 yr 375mL (Bardstown, KY)

*George Dickel No. 8 Black Label 80 proof 750mL (Tullahoma, TN)

Buffalo Trace 90 proof 750mL (No age, Franklin County, KY)

Four Roses 80 proof 750mL (No age, Lawrenceburg, KY)

Four Roses Single Barrel 100 proof 750mL (Warehouse: LW, Barrel # 55-5A, No age, Lawrenceburg, KY)

Catdaddy Carolina Moonshine "Private Batch, Triple Distilled" Batch #042 80 proof 750mL (GNS w/ Natural & Artificial Flavors, Piedmont Distillers Inc, Madison, NC)

Junior Johnson's Midnight Moon, Carolina Moonshine 80 proof 50mL (same as Catdaddy above)

Items with an asterisk were consumed prior to leaving TN along with a nip of KC and one of JDSB. I also enjoyed some pure TN real moonshine made locally from rye.

Not a bad trip. Now I got some drinkin' ahead of me!
