Vange
I was surfing through old threads and found one about a previous pappy 20 bottling by Julian for at BARREL STRENGTH! I tried desperately to find the thread again, but for some reason I cannot find it. The thread was closed years ago so I couldnt revive it. I can only pray this could happen again, but I doubt it.My question is, did anyone on this board get some and if so how did taste? How did it compare to pappy 20? Was this something to hold only for special occasions?
Sijan
I seem to recall Binny's having this bottling several years ago...?

Vange
Wow, nice! If anyone has access to one of these I am highly interested. (doubtful I know!!)Anyone have tasting notes?
HighTower
If you check out that photo that Dan linked,You can see a 4/60 in the corner of the bottle. I'm guessing there was only 60 bottles produced. Sounds about right.Think about the SB Pappy 23 from last year. One barrel netted 97 bottles and the other only 53, IIRC. This was also after they had been cut to bottling proof!Scott
Vange
Wow, I'd pay $250 for a bottle of that stuff. I cant imagine the intensity could be matched by many other spirits out there.
jinenjo
It's funny to see how, just five years ago, $100 for a bottle was very high. At least so it seemed by the way some of the posters were balking at the price tag.I'm guessing a limited release, out of only 60, would net close to three hundred clams these days. Vange
Pappy 20 is my fav bourbon. A barrelproof? I wouldnt WANT to spend $300, but if the opp arose I think I would regret not pulling the trigger.

Maybe as an investment but I haven't purchased a bourbon yet for investment purposes.

NickAtMartinis
Never say never!I should clarify by stating that I won't purchase a bourbon for $300 in the next ten years.
spun_cookie
You could always pawn off things you don't need to get the funds... extra kidney, pinky toe... the wife's jewlery that she has forgotten about  I would have to think long and hard about a VW cask strength... $300... I'd do it for a 23 yr :woohoo:
Empty Glass
I'd call Cliff but he's probably still recuperating from the highly successful Pappy23 campaign of 07. I'm still buying the new gold foil P23 so I don't go through too many bottles of the SB.com cache. There kind of special now that VW has eliminated the gold wax seal for the general public. It was still great being part of SB purchase. I'm in for the barrel strength P20 if there is room on the list. This is how it all started last time if I remember. spun_cookie
Hell, I'll be in for a few... say 6 if we do it.
Sijan
I am also very interested, although anything like $300/bottle may be out of my price range in the coming year, as I begin my clerkship in May (along with its roughly 60% cut in salary). spun_cookie
What did it run a bottle last time? I think they did the Pappy 23 yr.. If we did a 20 yr barrel strength, I do not think it would be $300. Still not cheep, but worth putting some down for the long future... by my 08/09 purchases for sure....
Stu
I'm always a sucker for a whisky that I'll probably never taste again, especially if it's old enough to vote. I'm in (depending on the final price).Stu
Mamba
I would buy one or two. I regret missing the SB.com Pappy 23.
Vange
I just wanted to know how the Pappy 20 SB from Sam's tasted and if anyone here tasted it. FWIW, after being part of the Pappy 23 sb.com group, I think in order to make it worth someone's effort and time there should be a royalty paid as a thank you to whoever organizes something like this in the future. Some $$ a bottle, that way the HUGE burden has some small reward.
