boone
I just wanted to know how the Pappy 20 SB from Sam's tasted and if anyone here tasted it. FWIW, after being part of the Pappy 23 sb.com group, I think in order to make it worth someone's effort and time there should be a royalty paid as a thank you to whoever organizes something like this in the future. Some $$ a bottle, that way the HUGE burden has some small reward.I think that's a good idea   A lot of work goes into doing that kind of thing. Showing one's appreciation with "extra gratuity" is most excellent   We know who did the excellent "organization" is that endeavor. He's probably wanting to tell me to "hush" right now   For new folks on the fourm. SB.com, Pappy 23 was made possible by two people on these forums. Although, I must step in here and note that we are offering SB.com wearables at this time. The sole purpose that I do this is to show my appreciation for making Straightbourbon.com available to me day and night year after year. Everyone can show thier support for all the work being done on these fourms by buying a item (or two) at this time. More information and procedure is here--->http://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/showpost.php?p=111779&postcount=50 The Bourbon Social, 2008 Sampler. The SB.com, Single Barrel,Pappy 23 would not have been possible without Straightbourbon.com. The Kentucky Barrel Society are the chosen one's who actually pick barrels for SB.com. The pay is being honored as one of the "chosen one's"
Vange
BettyeJoe, brilliantly said!I WISH I could volunteer, but I do not have the clout or relationships to get something like this done. That's why I am not implying in ANYWAY for someone to step up and do it. I wasnt trying to stir up interest, I figure if it did happen there would be PLENTY who would want to get their hands on barrel proof SW whisky!I point a lot of people to this site. This is THE bourbon place on the web.
jvanwinkle
I think we only had about 6 cases in that Sam's 20-year barrel. It was very light. And sorry, we have so little 20-year available now, there will be no 20-year barrel proof available, even for you nice SB.comers.Julian

boone
Now that's a thread killer if I ever saw one. RandyYeah, it sure is, but I hope my reply was not taken in the mode of "barrel purchase" but rather SB.com support.

Empty Glass
I do see reduced supplies (none) of the P20 in our local stores. I did grab one online last night. I like P20 and wasn't prepared for this drought. I see that Hirsch 16 has doubled in the last year when you can find it (my other favorite). This is not a good trend. It's tough to lose these grand oldies.
camduncan
Dammm.... Pappy 20 is No 2 on my "to find" list whilst in KY for the Sampler.... Maybe I'll find one somewhere else on our US trip.

Maybe I'll find one somewhere else on our US trip.Cam, You can find Pappy 20 easily in KY right now. Let me know if you want me to secure a bottle for you prior to your trip. I think Julian was referring to any future "barrel-proof" bottling.
spun_cookie
OK... lets try some VW 15 yr barrel proof... at this rate we may be on our way to the 12 yr... How about the 15 Julian? Or what else do you recommend?

jbutler
I am talking with Ryan from Julio's in Westborough Mass to see what kind of options we could have on a cask strength PVW or VW Lot... My thoughts are a multi-bourbon site bottling (SB, BD, & BE.com) to get enough for the barrel. If I can get enough pull, I will purchase the entire barrel and work on the distribution to those with interested... Might need to start a new thread once I get the options...Let you know when I know.EmeraldEmerald, et al.,Straightbourbon.com has it's own mechanisms and personnel for doing barrel purchases. Specialty bottling is something that SB.com undertakes as an entity, and we are highly adept at it. Our experience in this regard assures that any bottling that has the Straightbourbon.com name and logo associated with it is of the finest quality. When we decide to do a bottling, which we typically offer at least once a year, we will advise the user base well in advance; not to gauge interest, but rather to give the limited number of users whom we can accommodate a chance to queue up. Our bottlings are always in great demand, and if you get your hands (and taste buds) on one, you'll understand why. Addendum: I inadvertently flicked the wrong switch and permanently deleted spun_cookies post. I even managed to do it so thoroughly, I can't retrieve it. Fortunately, it's quoted here in it's entirety. My apologies Emerald.

bigtoys
I'd be interested in a special SB.com bottling, even if it's not Pappy 20 (although that would be amazing). Maybe 4R?
Stu
Jim,Being a newbie, last years PVW was the only sb.com bottling I've been in on. However I regret only buying 3 bottles. I plan to remedy that on the next offering. Hope to see you at the sampler.Stu
jburlowski
If there is any kind of special bottling and it has the Van Winkle name on it... I'm in.
HipFlask
I'm in too. At least 2 bottles. And while I would love it to be a PVW product at barrel proof I'd also be happy with most anything. As was suggested 4r BP sounds mighty good.
gr8erdane
While not wishing to be too much of a spoilsport, I think this thread shows that Julian takes a great interest in what we have to say about his wonderful offerings, and maybe we should be careful of going to the well too often lest it dry up completely. The Pappy 23 barrels were a VERY generous gesture on his part given the price we were allowed to buy them for compared to what they usually would have cost us. I can't help but be reminded that each barrel of SW whiskey that goes into the bottle is one less left for posterity. Until his BT distilled whiskey reaches the proper age, it's the lifeblood of his business and his livelihood. I just think we shouldn't push too hard this soon after the last purchase. Virus_Of_Life
Dane makes a good point and I don't think anyone should be surprised by Julian's response. He stated during the 23yr barrel process it couldn't be BP due to labeling issues.
shyster512
I following this post the other night. For the life of me, I did not see what Nickatmartinis did to get banned. But that is not the purpose of this post nor is it any of my business. I tried to sign up at another bourbon site around the time I signed up for this one (this one is better anyway). But when I put my name, password and other information in, it said I had been banned from the sight. The only problem I have is that I have never been on that sight. I've wondered since that time how I could have been banned never having been on that sight. Anyone know how that would happen?
