Bruichladdich 15 second edition

Has anyone else had this 'laddie bottling? How representative is it of the normal 'laddie house profile? I note that this bottling was finished in sauternes casks for 25 weeks after 15 yrs of aging in bourbon casks.

I've tried it several different times and enjoy the floral, honey nose of it, but find the palate rather puzzling and not particularly agreeable. I get some unpleasant rubber notes as well as a jumble of other flavors that I am having a hard time placing. These seem different from normal peaty notes that I am familiar with from other Islay scotches.

So, I am trying to figure out if I am not a big fan of Bruichladdich in general, or just this particular bottling...

If you like peat their 3D bottles (peat proposal, moine mohr) are great!

Thanks. I may try those out at some point, but was thinking about trying out the 12 year or the 10 year just to get a better sense of what their normal lightly-peated house style is like.

I also understand that their peated whiskey is somewhat different from other Islay whiskey? More pure peat and less smoke or something?

The 3D series has the Peat without the medicinal/iodine notes which are possessed by the Kidalton trio.

I have 8 different expressions from them and enjoy them all. It is hard to say what there house style is with all of the different variations they offer. The 10 is a nice, fruity young Whisky. Get it while you can because it has been replaced by the 12 year old.

The WMD II "Yellow Submarine" is a 14 year that is very tasty as well.

I have the first 3D (Peat Proposal) and the 1st 15 year. I like both but like the 3D a lot more.

Sijan, have had several various incarnations of the laddie's I think this is fairly representative. On the other hand, rubber notes is something I detect frequently in Islay scotches. Personally this doesn't deter from the scotch for my tastes. I find this 15 year to be fantastic and the palate ring out with great depth. There are a ton of scotches out there if you didn't enjoy this I would move on and try something else.

I found a bottle of the discontinued Bruichladdich 10 today and picked it up. I really enjoyed it -was surprised by how sweet and fruity it was. I got strong aromas and tastes of apricot and peach from this whiskey.

And no odd rubber notes like with the 15 yo Second Edition. I'm wondering whether the Sauternes cask finishing may have produced the unpleasant notes I find in the 15SE.

To me, the 15SE is a textbook example of a wine-finished whisky. The wine dances around the edge of the tongue while the bulk of the palate is malt, malt, malt. You can then decide, as Dan has, whether or not you like that malt flavor profile, but at least the delineation is there. I like the whisky.

The yellow sub version is from 65 to 75 a bottle where I am. I havent looked into it yet- but is it just straight scotch? By that I mean no special finish or barrels? I am still needing to finish a 375ml of laddie that was imported by Duggans Distillers of Orageburg NY - I have had this bottle awhile to say the least lol. Its really old style looking (kinda) looks nothing like the current stylish labeling.

I believe the WMD II Yellow Sub is ACE'd in Rioja Casks...very good though.
