callmeox
I've recently developed the habit of checking out the monthly price list that Ohio DOLC publishes online to see if there's anything new in the local pipe. This month in the special order section of the list, they list a 90 proof "WELLER RESERVE BBN" with no age statement for 27.50 (tax included). Frankly, I'm confused since I can't find a product that matches that name/price point. The last BOTM was the WL Weller SR which seems to be in the 12.00 to 15.00 range. The WL Weller 12 is more likely at the 27.00 price point, but it lacks the "reserve" component in the name.Since it's a special order item, the rules in Ohio require that the store acquires a minimum of 3 bottles from the state to them immediately (they can't stock it) and this is auditable by the state if they drop in to inspect. If it was the Weller 12, I'd have no problem taking all three at that price, but I'm not so hot on the prospects if it is the SR. Ohio pricing may stink on ice, but I'm not going to pay 100% markup compared to a border state for the same item. Are there any other trapped Ohioans who have seen this on the shelf or anyone else who cares to offer an opinion on this?Scott - in Ohio
ThomasH
I live down east of Canton and also saw one of the Canton stores had the same bottles at the same price. This store had a whole case on the shelf. They have ordered bottles in for me before and always told me I could buy what I wanted and they would put the rest on the shelf. If something is new and priced right, it sells quickly in this particular store. 27.50 is definitely too much for this brand!Thomas
callmeox
So, it is the Weller SR. Geez.On one hand, the pricing is disappointing, but on the other hand, seeing a Weller brand on the Ohio price list may bode well for future availability. Thanks for the clarification. cowdery
I looked at the list and if it's not Weller Special Reserve, I don't know what it is. You might actually want to write to Buffalo Trace about it, ask them if in fact it's Special Reserve and why it's so expensive. Ohio can be a bit high on some prices, but that's on the order of twice the normal retail.I'd never looked at Ohio's price list before. How funny is it that they're still quoting bottle size in ounces almost 30 years after the whole industry switched to metric?(I am, by the way, a Buckeye born and bred.) barturtle
Yeah, I looked too. Was kinda expecting it to be a 1.75.

I knew that there was something else that I liked about you. I just couldn't put my finger on it. Yeah, I looked too. Was kinda expecting it to be a 1.75. Don't you mean a 59.2? ThomasH
The Weller listed on the Website was the Special Reserve 90 proof. I saw it on one of my local store's shelves with the jacked up price!Thomas
callmeox
Well, I tried to send an email to the weller@bourbonwhiskey.com address from the GreatBourbon.com site and it keeps bouncing. I'm sure that someone here has a good address that they can pass along (perhaps in a PM).ThanksScott
