Bourbon "rituals"

I'm sure (I think) that, beyond our normal (and possibly excessive) consumption, we all have some rituals for bourbon drinking. By this I mean repetitive occasions / situations where we drink the same pour, for the same reasons, because it means something to us...

What spurred this question is this: my wife and I just returned from our weekly, Thursday night "date night". Every week, we go together to a local "casual dining" restaurant where we digest the week, bitch & complain, and enjoy each others' company. I have two (although sometimes three -- and maybe, if it's been a really bad week, four WT101's.

Although it is a righteous pour at any time, the WT always sems to be especially good on Thursdays.

Any of you have similar experiences / occasions?

No, none that I can think of -- unless preferring wheaters with cola and rye-recipe with ginger ale is a ritual.

My ritual is to get down a glass, pour bourbon of choice in glass, drink bourbon. I do that 3-4 times a week.:grin::grin:

Great start of a thread, but I doubt it will generate many replies....

I enjoy a similar, albeit not weekly, but, perhaps, monthly, ritual. My wife and I, at my persistent haste, frequent a local restaurant that serves a [wider] variety of bourbons [and scotch]. By the time I'm "timed out" bitching and complaining about my work week, she's all too ready to drive me home. Like you, my poison is WTRB or 101, but I do enjoy JW Black or The Dalmore 12-YR.

It seems that date night with wife and bourbon is a popular thing.

I'd have to say we have something similar on Saturday afternoons when I pry as much bourbon into my wife as possible.

Then I look so much better to her.:skep:

On other note, there are "traditions".

Mine are as follows;

George T Stagg on Thanksgiving for the bountiful harvest.

Pappy Van Winkle 20yo on Christmas, what makes a better present?

Eagle Rare 101 10yo when the super cold comes in Ferruary, nothing warms me up better.

When I have a cigar I'm having Weller & water (2 to 1). On date night with my wife on Fridays I enjoy a double MM on the rocks with dinner, or playing poker when I enjoy a double MM on the rocks. I guess there's a trend there.

I uncork and sniff my 8-10 open bottles before I choose and pour.

Is that strange?

I don't know.

I have that many bottles open and the best way to recognize them is the nose.
