gothbat
Not sure if someone already beat me to this in another thread (I've looked several times) but I had heard a rumor here a few times about how Weller Antique might follow in the footsteps of Centennial and be discontinued in the near future so I contacted BT to see what they would tell me about this. I just got a response today, here's what they told me:Thank you so much for your email. We are still bottling and distributing Weller 107. In the 90's when we were distilling the Weller that is being bottled now we had to predict what the demand would be in 2007-2008. We underestimated just how popular the brand would be now and how great the demand would be, therefore, the Weller line is difficult to find right now. Hopefully within the next few months Weller will be much easier to find. Just thought I would pass the good news along, you guys had me worried for a little bit! Unfortunately what I didn't ask about was the age statement... I'll let you know when I hear anything further from them.

TNbourbon
Mr. Cowdery did:http://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/showthread.php?p=118006#post118006 Which I saw this morning, so bought four bottles over lunch break. Hoping that will be enough to see me through the drought. I bought 3 two weeks ago. Only two remain -- finished the first last night. I'm hoping it was just because I had backup, but I'm also hoping I run across some more soon. I don't want to have to break into the 'old stuff'. ggilbertva
Thankfully I have 4 bottles of the standard 107 bunkered and two 9 year single barrel. That should last me until stock is back on track.
JamesW
I have 1 bunkered and about half a bottle left. I notice that the 2 stores in my area that had this in stock don't anymore. I hope they get more soon!
ILLfarmboy
I've got six bottles bunkered bunkered (not from any new acquisitions). Glad to hear it isn't going away.
callmeox
Man, I need a volunteer to snag me some of this. I hate that Ohio is so brain dead about the liquor industry. I definitely need to start building my network here.
cowdery
I'm in Louisville right now and went to Liquor Barn on Hurstbourne, where they usually have tons of everything (it's such a pretty sight) but the Weller section was practically bare. This shortage is real, but my source (someone who works with Nancy, in fact) said the same thing Nancy did. Then she bought me a drink. (But she had dinner with Jim Murray. Drat!) gothbat
I understand they have the second biggest inventory, only behind Jim Beam. But I could be wrong there.... No, according to their website you're correct. (First sentence of the last paragraph.) As for the Weller Antique 107, I haven't bothered to hoard. I like it a lot, sometimes it's even a regular pour, but it'll be back soon enough and there's plenty of other things I really enjoy to tide me over until then. (Can't say that I've really seen any shortage of it in these parts anyway. ) I didn't let that stop me from picking up another last night when I went to get a bottle of FC103 though... (Total in stash: 1)
doubleblank
I've also now seen several shelves here in Houston where various iterations of Weller 12/Antique/Sp Reserve were and have been replaced with signs reading..."Due to a miscalculation at the distillery, there will be no ___________ available from our distributor until mid summer 2008"This sign was where the Dickle No 8 was empty too. At least this gives the consumer some information regarding the temporary nature of the shortage and who's to blame. They could have also said....."Our customers are drinking so damn much Weller/Dickle/etc, we can't keep up with demand"Randy

CorvallisCracker
Scott, we have a few stores up here with plenty if you need, MarkWhy, thank you very much. However, if I need more, there's a store in Eugene that had a good supply last month, and I suspect still do. Bourbon is not a big seller here in the mid-valley.In fact, the four I bought were at Downtown Liquors in Albany. I was in there about a month ago, and there were four on the shelf. When I bought the four the other day, I asked the manager if they were the same. "I'm sure they were, because those were the last four I had. Guess I'm going to have to order some more."I told him about the situation with Weller availabilty, adding, "If the OLCC still has some at their warehouse, you'll get some, but if not, you may not be getting anymore until late summer."He replied that he sold so little of it that no one would likely notice. cowdery
I think HH has the largest "aged" inventory, by far the largest. That's correct. The way it's reported is barrels over 8 years old. As of the end of 2004 (the most recent year I have on hand), Heaven Hill had more than 121,000 barrels over 8 years old. Beam was second with 36,000. BT was third with 28,000. Fourth place may surprise, but delight, you: Four Roses with 14,000.I suspect Heaven Hill's number is now much lower, due to demand, but the ranking probably hasn't changed. I'm fishing around for more recent numbers. They are supposed to be public records but I usually have to ask one of the distilleries to make me a copy. PhilsFan
Liquor Barn on Fern Valley Rd has been out of Weller Antique recently...I saw a bottle at Liquor World on Antle Drive (near Preston) for about $3 more than LB was selling it for the last time I was in(so about $22 instead of $19) I was really searching for Centennial, and the guy at LB gave me the number of his distributor Southern Wine and Spirits. Kelli at SW&S told me that they were expecting a supply of Centennial with an ETA of May 9th.
ILLfarmboy
Well, my only source of Weller Antique in the Quad Cities area went dry. I stopped up there to pick up a couple more bottles and there was none to be had. The sales clerk wasn't very helpfully. She didn't know what I was talking about, Weller what? she asked.....Is it a bourbon?...... The only explanation I got was it had been discontinued or it didn't sell enough to warrant the shelf space. Well ,we know it hasn't been discontinued and I can't believe it didn't sell enough to warrant the shelf space since I would go in there one week and there would be only four of five bottles on the shelf, a week or so later the shelf would be full, only to dwindle again as time went by. I knew I should have picked up a couple bottles when I was down in Peoria.Looking on the bright side, both The Hy-vee Wine and Spirits in Milan and the one in Galesburg are now carrying Fighting Cock. I'm not itching to buy another bottle anytime soon. It is by no means a favorite, but it is nice to have it amongst the selection. Damn thing turned out black but I didn't want to re-type it.
