How Slow Is Too Slow?

When I read the following by Chuck Cowdery:

"whiskey exposed to the air will deteriorate pretty quickly. How fast? An unfinished glass of whiskey, if it doesn't all evaporate, will be undrinkable the next day."

It got me thinking...I like to drink slowly, and enjoy the flavors, but maybe I drink too slowly. Is there a length of time where a standard pour stays at it's peak flavor in the glass (the flavor the distiller intended)?

How long does it take for the taste to break down? ...I'm not talking undrinkable, just the loss of the ideal taste you paid good money for.

Well, I'm not sure if there is an "ideal taste" I enjoy pouring something an observing how the flavor changes over time in the glass. Over time one flavor hay subside and another flavor reveal itself. I would think that if you want to enjoy this aspect then probably 3 hours or so would allow the whiskey to show all its got.

Of course you could always pour a little, drink it, pour a little more, drink it...and on and on.

3 hours is slow even for me, but I'll try it...My usual pace is an hour to an hour and a half per pour(two pours if I'm not working next day) and I enjoy every drop!
