Defunct US distillery in Mariposa, CA?

There was a distillery there and they used to have a website. The single malt whisky was called 'Glen' something. I thought they were having a problem with financing? Anybody have any information?

I assume you're not thinking of Anchor Distillery which is on Mariposa Street in San Francisco.

No Stu. They used to have a website and from what I can still remember they were able to distill some and are now maturing in oak barrels. I am familiar with Mariposa, CA which is close to Yosemite. Its a great place to make whisky I assume because of the temperate climate and good water source. I vaguely remember the name of the whisky is Glen Keith or something but that name is already used by a Speyside whisky.

Yes! thats the one, thanks a lot Jono.

It says the distillery is not operating. It was envisioned in 1995 and an article dated July 2003 by John McDougal talks about it and it seems to me that the distillery has not been built. So it remains to be seen what the problem is.

John McDougal is a well known master distiller in Scotland and said to be the most experienced whisky maker. One of his projects is to built new distilleries around the world like Glenkelley.
