Rumor has it that there is plenty of Stagg to be found. A few of the stores I have talked to that are out are getting a bunch in about 2-weeks (and I mean dozen plus each).

Anyone know if there is a mid year Stagg coming or if it is just more of the 2007 that had not been cleaned out of the distributor?

Stagg is an item that BT discourages distributors from simply letting it sit idly in warehouses. If a distributor does not sell its allocation, it usually sends it back to BT, which forwards it to markets where sales are better. This re-allocation usually takes a few months to work its way through the various and multiple 'pipelines'.

Thus, my assumption is that this is a re-allocation of last fall's bottling.

This is consistent with the sudden appearance of a large supply on the shelf at Clark Street Binny's.

And Evansville must be some kind of abberation (it wouldn't be the first time) as the price seems to be holding at ~$60 everywhere else.

I think that Stagg is starting to lose its cachet. It is still damn good whiskey, but not as good or unique as in earlier releases and certainly not as frantically in demand as in the past years.

Thank you... next question

There was a forth release of the 2005 version to Japan only that was the same proof as the 1st 2005 release... anyone know about his (there is a spicific label on japan Staggs that say "2005 4th release")

Looking for details... I think it is the 1st with an aftermarket sticker... but, I have been know to be wrong once... or more....

I just got a bottle from Binny's, had them add it to an internet order even though the GTS itself isn't listed online - my order ships today. call or email them for specifics re price and year.

Allright, allright... I probably resemble that remark.

Those of us who live in Eden (a/k/a Kentucky) are used to having any bourbon we want (with the apparent exception of Classic Cask, damnit) always available at our fingertips (the way God intended it).

But what I meant... is that the objective quality of Stagg (while still very high), is not what it what is was for the earlier releases. Not surprising, given the loss of stocks of aged whiskey. There are fewer barrels to choose from, so the end product may suffer (just a bit).

Anyway, please excuse me while I start my annual series of pathetic calls to nearby merchants asking them to reserve a bottle (or, praise the gods, can I imagine two) of the latest GTS release.

Have I prostrated myself enough?

P.S.

Chuck, Are you enjoying this enough?

I think the poor consumer confidence is starting to take its toll which is affecting the primary (at the store) and secondary (on eBay) markets for Bourbon.

It wouldn't surprise me that many people that used to buy multiple bottles are now buying only one bottle because they have a good stash that they already need to drink through, that $50 bourbon is not cheap and the eBay markup has fallen closer to $20-25 per bottle.

my local shop got 12 bottles of the 07 release in January and I bought three of them. the other 9 were gone within 4 days. and that's usually how it is with the BTAC around here.

I'm in the category of "I've got lots of the early Stagg and don't need much of the newer ones." Many of us went out and bought all we could find in the early days because no one knew BT would continue doing a Stagg and occasionally do multiple bottlings in a single year. So I usually add two of each Stagg release and probably already have a lifetime supply. I don't drink it that often because its a cool/cold weather drink to me and we don't get much of that here in Texas.

Here's a pic of my wife in 2004. We were at the Fest in September and went on a Stagg hunt in Lexington (or Louisville?). You should see the look I get these days when a barrel's worth of whiskey shows up including the empty barrel.

A couple of factors for me: the price has gone up appreciably while the supply has broadened; and I just don't drink it that often (he said, echoing Randy).

I used to buy every bottle I saw, and that was doable when it was $39 a bottle after I talked the cashier into a discount on those 3-bottle cases. Now, around here, it's $60 and up before sales tax.

Luckily, I was able to trade or pass on almost all of those early bottles, so I generally only have a current one on hand. I bought two in November -- the first one is still one-third full.

No, we're just all too busy snapping up $13/bottle Rittenhouse BIB to bother with anything so mundane and ordinary as Stagg :D :D

(I've actually never hunkered down and bought any. Mostly from indecision; there's a lot of stuff with good rep coming out of BT these days, and since I don't have the money to acquire them all, I sit there and try in vain to make up my mind....before making off with a higher-end Forester or Fitz...)
