So what is the best boilermaker combo????? I usually just use miller lite and any random whiskey I have in my stash. Not very good but gets the buzz going quickly.

I've seen a couple of places trying to be redneck-chic go with Seagrams Crown Royal and Pabst.

Pabst is now a trash product brewed by Miller, but it is the "in" domestic now.

In my view, any beer if skunky or light struck consumed with a rye whiskey not aged sufficiently to get the raw grain flavors out would not be a good boilermaker.

A subject probably for a separate thread, but I will offer what I think is an excellent boilermaker.

Contrary perhaps to first impression, it is not the best whiskey and best beer. That is too much of a good thing.

The whiskey should contrast with the beer.

If one is relatively plain or jejune, let the other be fulsome.

A fresh Bud on draft as against Russell's Reserve 101, say, or Pappy 15.

A fresh heavy micro amber ale (many choices) vs. Wild Turkey, or EWSB.

Light and shade, contrast, are the keys (IMO).

It is not a surprise to me that once Scotch whisky gained wide acceptance in its homeland, the traditional, dark heavy-bodied Scotch ale withered in favor of the new Continental lager beer, and this started in the late 1800's...

Regular Ezra Brooks is the one bourbon I just can't figure a good way to drink it. The one beer, while popular in my school days, that absolutely makes me sick just to think about it, is Gennessee Cream Ale. It was the cheapest thing in a keg that was deemed worthy to serve at a dorm party. I remember the sickest I have ever seen someone was when they mixed Jim Beam white and Genny Cream Ale. This guy could have honestly been renamed RALPH!

Oh man, we drank tons of Genesee Cream Ale in college...in the green can! I actually thought it was pretty good, as well as the regular Genesee Beer. Not sure I'd be mixing it with Ezra Brooks, though. Not sure I'd be mixing anything with Ezra Brooks.
