If I can't make it to KY, they'll have to bring KY to me.

I got a call today from a friend, saying that I have been invited to attend "The Embassy Maker's Mark Master Class" hosted by Bill Samuels, Jr. 2 weeks from now.

I'm pretty excited as I have been wanting to meet Bill for some time now.

It says you receive a hand dipped bottle signed by Bill....I am hoping to get to dip the bottle myself. I'll slam dunk that sucker!

I was also asked not to turn up there with all of my bottles to be signed

You can poke around on their website and find the info but basically they have some really high end things available such as participating in distilling and barreling and these things usually include a bar-b-que at Bill Samuels Jr house. As I said high end $$$$$.

Wow! A bar-b-que?! Where do I sign up?;)

Forgive me if I'm slow on the uptake, Scott -- but, does this mean you'll soon be in Kentucky?

Or, is this event coming Down Under?

It's a Downunder thing Tim - Bill will be in Australia. (I'm bummed I won't be able to meet him - the numbers are very limited and it's impossible to get an invite as far as I know:cry: )

Like Cam said Tim....unfortunately it's Down Under.

I suppose that's good for me, but I'd rather be in Kentucky!

Maybe one day......

I just wanted to pass my thanks onto Scott for getting me in to meet Bill at the end of the event. (He even went out of his way to drop me home afterwards.... Thanks mate, it was very much appreciated  )

So, without hijacking Scott's thread, it was an absolute honour to meet Bill briefly and talk about Kentucky, Bourbon and the great people who make up the Bourbon Industry.

So what does a Master Class involve? Bill telling some funny stories and going through their classic tasting mat consisting of:

1) White Dog

2) 2yo maker's

3) Regular Makers (6-6 1/2yo)

4) 9yo Maker's (yeah, I thought it was good!)

5) Jack Daniel's

6) Woodford Reserve

We then got to dip our own bottles (the same 375ml you dip at the distillery) and get Bill to sign it along with a copy of his autobiography.

I also took along a few bottles I wanted signed, as well as my Louisville Slugger and some MM Cigars. When I pulled out the gold wax 101, Bill had a good look at it and commented it must be 20-30 years old.

I had a great time and it was great to meet Bill, he hasn't been out to Brisbane in 20 years! He said he will retire in 2 1/2 years from now, and Rob will take over. He said he will help him out still but Rob will hold the reigns.

Hopefully he can make it out here more often.

The pics....

1) The Table setup.

2) Naked Bottles!

3) Dipping my bottle

4) My "sideways semi-slam"

5) Bill and I (Don't I look so official in my SB.com shirt...thanks Bettye Jo!)

6) Cam with Bill

Really, really, really, cool! The progression of Maker's ages must have made for a great tasting. Sounds like you enjoyed the whole event. I know I would have.

Scott, after you mentioned Australia has its own Official Ambassador based in Sydney.... It got me thinking - did they make mention of this type of event occuring again? Or any organised MM event?

I will email Jared and ask him. He is the Brand Ambassador for premium bourbon for Maxxium Australia.

On top of Maker's he looks after Jim Beam Black, Small Batch, Baker's, Basil Hayden's and Booker's.

Maybe we might see Fred Noe make an appearance...
