CVS Pharmacy Ad

Since we often talk about how much things cost and how things are being retailed, I thought it might be interesting to post this. It is the back page of the current advertising circular for all Chicago-area CVS Pharmacy stores.

The way they merchandise price points is very interesting. They take a few key price points ($9.99, $13.99, $19.99) and tell you what your choices are at that amount, which in several cases includes several different 750s or, whoa!, a 1.75 of something else.

I always check their liquor department when I go there. The last time there I picked up some Gran Legacy bourbon. Anyone know anything about this bourbon? :skep: I haven't opened it yet. Joe

All those sale prices and no deals on bourbon. The JD is 3.00 more than Binnys sale price. The only deals are the CC, Grey Goose, JWB and Cuervo tequila!

It's always nice to know just how much more things cost here in California. CVS is here and I guarantee we are nowhere that cheap.

I wouldn't really expect CVS to be competitive with Sam's or Binny's, even on deal, but Binny's has maybe 20 Chicago-area stores, Sam's has three or four, but CVS has hundreds. It's a convenience thing.

Also interesting is that the #1 drug store chain in Chicago, Walgreens, which started and is based here, decided a few years ago to discontinue alcohol in most of its stores. They still have a booze department in a few stores, but for the most part they got out of that business.

Every one of them is cheaper then this worthless Pa State Store system, we have lots of Wine but who cares wish the CVS here sold beer and Liqour! The case of Becks is about 6.00 cheaper then here for starts!

I second the emotion about the PA state stores. It appears they are about to reduce their bourbon offerings to only a handful of items. I am forced to stock up out of state and break the law. Hey, the first Whiskey Rebellion started in Western PA. Maybe its time for another.

We used to have CVS dugstores all over until they merged with Rite Aid in our area. We now only have 2 CVS stores in our county and both are 10-15 miles away. The funny thing is, we still get CVS ads in our newspaper but no nearby store to use them. We have 3 Rite aid stores in town against one Walgreens and the Walgreens does more business. In Florida, most Walgreens have liquor stores attached to them. As Chuck stated, they are a concept of convenience and that is exactly how they are run. The selection and prices in these stores aren't bad either. I wish our liquor stores in Ohio were that good!

"10-15 miles away". I mean no offense, but, I have to laugh when I read things like that. You say that like its a hardship.

10 to 15 miles away isn't a great distance, in fact one of the stores is actually in the town where I work. However, these stores are just far enough out of the way and inconvenient to get to and offer relatively little of interest, that it doesn't make sense for me to go out of my way or waste my time or gas to go to them. In my town, all of the stores of any use or type are located along the main route through town and are within 2 miles of my house. In a way, it is like one stop shopping!

Yeah it is good. Almost 23% under MI price.

When I had family in Chicago I would almost always get a JWB on sale at a drug store during a visit.
