OscarV
On the advice of Oscar - Laphroaig 18 yr. $69 is pretty tough to beat for a 18 year old single malt.Tim

Megawatt
St. Magdalene Rare Malts 19 yo 127.6 proof. A closed Lowland distillery.Sounds good! I expect a review.I picked up Wiser's 18 year old. Maybe all the gold medals put me in the mood for a good Canadian whisky. Here are some notes:NoseSweet and full. Toffee, table syrup. Dried leaves. Hint of mineral (wet rocks). TasteCrisp with oak and rye, followed by a surge of sweet corn. Evolves with hard caramel candy and that mineral note again. BodyFull and thick, almost syrupy. FinishRather long. Dries on crisp leafy flavours, but a touch of sweetness persists. ImpressionsA big, bittersweet Canadian whisky, less subtle than others in its class. Follows the established Wiser’s profile of a more full-flavoured Canadian whisky. Comes across as a bit too sweet at times, perhaps, but satisfying nonetheless. The Boozer
But remember the last night's water doused campfire wood taste, you won't regret it.Finally got around to breaking it open. did you say CAMPFIRE?!!! Going to be tasting that baby for "days on end". Surprising very little sweet, more in the QC and CS versions. Very dry, bone dry finish. Reminds me of some of the old stuff .. from like the early 1980's.

AVB
This thread is for foreign whiskey so Four Roses really doesn't qualify.

wadewood
Don't know if it is "water of life" but I picked a bottle of Johnny Walker Green. I have wanted to try this for a while - blended Scotch is pure malt and in my opinion "vodka scotch", so a pure malt blend is more what I think a blend should be. $59.99 less 25% at a liquor store going out of business that Bob and Randy told me about. birdman1099
On a whim, I picked up a Scotts selection Glenlivet 1970 33 yr.It didn't taste anything like I imagined. Not as oaky, but plenty of sherry. For 112 proof, it was really smooth and not very spicy.I would call it a Macallan CS with twice the maturity. It certainly earned a spot in the cabinet. AVB
That one was on the shelf for awhile. Hope they kept the original price on it from 6 years ago.

AVB
Pretty much the 2004 price. Great deal.
birdman1099
They have 9 or 10 other iterations of the Scotts selection from the same years. But I cant seem to find much info on them. There is a 1964 North of Scottland that looks nice and dark, and a Glen Mohr from 1967. So many choices and no info on them.....:smiley_acbt:
AVB
I don't know how much 1964 North of Scotland Scott's managed to get hold of but the 3 I've had were all very good. The 41yo is what I have currently but the latest 45yo isn't bad but is getting more woody then the 41 or the 43. There is also a 1973 32 yo that I haven't seen in the US. Any price under $175-180 for the 1964 is going to be a good deal.

unclebunk
I meant to mention in my previous post that I found another old bottle of Yamazaki blended scotch whisky at an estate sale a few days ago and it was quite good. It came in a really unique bottle (very...Japanese as you'd expect) and dates from the mid-sixties. Worth every penny of the $15 I paid!
AVB
Great! I haven't had the 39 but I'm sure you'll give us a report. The 1964 North of Scotland 39 yr. now has a new home !!!!!

The Boozer
I must be doing something right. Went to the office on Friday and there was a another check from a client. That's 2 Fridays in a row I have been paid. So naturally I went out and bought an Ardbeg Corryvreckan.
