Picked up Glenfiddich 12 because it was on sale. This stuff is actually quite good and I don't see why so many people frown upon it.

I couldn't agree more. I'm partial to the Islay whiskies, but, I always have Glenfiddich 12 in the house.

Picked up Strathisla 12 today. I was going to buy Bruichladdich Peat or Laphroaig Quarter Cask but then I saw a bottle of this, which turned out to be one of the last five in Ontario (It has been discontinued).

Had one glass of it, which I enjoyed very much. Sort of like a heavier Highland Park. Lots of oak, fruit, and spice, with a bit of earthy peat. Quite rich. Lovely stuff.

1964 Bowmore Fino Cask, bottle number 216 out of 300

Very nice my friend. Will you be tasting or just looking?

Nice chunk of change for that one. Someday Bowmore is going to run out of 1964 whisky to repackage. What do they have....10 of them now?

The 3 originals from the 90's.

Bourbon, Oloroso and Fino from 2001-2002

White, Black and Gold from 2007-2009

Did a Red ever come out? Did I miss any?

  • 2 weeks later...

I ran across a couple of sales, but I'm not sure whether to pull the trigger. My Scotch collection is small and I've only dabbled so far. I found Glenmorangie "Original" 10yo for $33 (usually goes for $39-41 around here) and Glenlivet 12yo gift set with glasses on closeout for $27 (cheaper than bottle by itself in the same store). I probably should have picked up the glass set but I was on a mission for a particular bourbon. Of course I've had my eyes on two other bottles-The Glenlivet Nadurra and Aberlour A'Bunadh, but those don't go on sale.

What I have so far: Talisker 10yo, HP 12, Balvenie Doublewood, Ardbeg 10yo and Bowmore 12yo.

Save up for the more expensive bottles or go ahead and get Glenlivet 12 and/or Glenmorangie 10?

Bought a bottle of Ballantines 12 on sale while vacationing in Florida. I already have the regular, 17yr,18yr, 21yr and 30 yr. All I need now is a bottle of the Finest and I'll have the set complete!

Picked up a bottle of Scapa 14 on sale today. I don't see this one too often and not usually on sale!

I really like the Scapa 14, Tom. Don't expect to have your socks knocked off--it's nothing like HP--but very tasty just the same. What did you pay, out of curiosity?

I've been looking for one of those. What was the damage if you don't mind?

My Ultima was 119.00 with a discount. I bought a bunch of other stuff from the same store and they gave me a price break. I did see one at another store that was 179.00 and had the box with it. Mine didn't have the box. Most of these I have seen have been 149.00 to 179.00. The Scapa was 43.00 with tax. I haven't seen these for much less than 60.00 until now. I think the store I got it at had one more!

I bought my very first bottle of Scotch last night - traded actually. I got a Compass Box Flaming Heart and gave up a Handy from my bunker. I had only occasionally finished a pour of Scotch previously so this was a breakthrough of sorts.

We did a Compass Box tasting last night and there wasn't one I didn't care for in the entire line up. For me the Flaming Heart obviously stood out along with Eluthera and Spice Tree. No complaints with Alysia, Hedonism or Oak Cross either - overall I was very impressed and thought it was a delicious line up of whiskeys at very reasonable prices.

Went to our local monthly whiskey club tasting tonight and really enjoyed a 30 year old Deanston. However, I ended up leaving it on the shelf and chose to bring home a Laphroaig 30 instead. I also picked up an Ardberg Rollercoaster that the spirits mgr had been able to get for me.

I went to the store with a completely different plan in mind (bourbon buying was the original agenda), but there were two bottles of Laphroaig Cask Strength on the Scotch shelves. I haven't been able to find it locally so far, and everything I've read about it has convinced me I needed to try it, so one of the two came home with me. This is one I've really been looking forward to, so I hope it lives up to expectations.
