Bought the revised Dalmore 12. I can definitely taste more Sherry influence this time around than I could the previous 12-year bottling. Not only that, but it definitely tastes like a higher-quality sherry cask, like what one would find in the Macallan, the Glenfarclas, and the Sherry-finished Glenmorangie malts.

Whereas some "sherry-matured" scotches only have a vague nuttiness to show for it, this one has the rich tastes of raisins, pistachios, and dates.

The PLCB definitely needs to carry more Dalmore!!!!!

I would absolutely LOVE to tell you about the rest of the Dalmore lineup-- but the basic 12-year is the only one I can get in this state.

I definitely want to try that King Alexander-- 6 different types of maturation casks!!!!!

As soon as I opened my bottle I knew it would be a winner. It is different from most Scotches, very sweet and flowery, also doughy. Peculiar, but very, very nice.

Picked up 2 bottles of Binny's new cask strength bottling from Kilchoman. Up front it has all the youthfulness and iodine of the regular release, but it finishes with a great rush of peat that I did not get on the standard. The added proof really adds something to this young one too.

That's almost as good as the tasting tips that used to be on the Highland Park website. "Don't pay too much attention to the colour of the whisky, unless it is cloudy, in which case you should pour it away."

Picked up a forty of Grant's Family Reserve on sale. Mixing it with ginger ale and cranberry cocktail. Quite nice!

Santa was good to me this year: I got Crown Royal Deluxe, Aberlour 16 year old, and Crown Royal Cask No. 16.

I just bought my Christmas present. A bottle of The Balvenie 21 portwood.

It was a toss-up between that and The Macallan 18. Can't say why I chose one over the other...a mental coin-flip I guess. I was reasonably sure I'd be okay either way.

Decided to changes things up and went with the Auchentoshan 12. What a delightful surprise. This is a really fine Lowland whisky, with a wonderful honeyed nose and just enough pepper in the finish to make you reach for more. I'm impressed!

I really like it. I find it sweeter than a typical peated Islay malt but it works very nicely. Also of interest is it is a young whisky (~6 yrs old). Apparently the location of the distillery (Bangalore) experiences intense temperature extremes, leading to a "faster " aging. It's also non-chill filtered, has no caramel color added, and bottled at 46% which is all good in my books. It's my first Amrut and certainly not my last.

Macallan 18 for $120. Family member was in Caribbean and grabbed a bottle for me. Not a great price but a little better than stateside.

That is actually a really good price for the MaC 18.... It runs $155 +tax here....:smiley_acbt:
