I dropped by my local store to get a bottle of Dickel 12 and I happened to see a bottle I haven't seen in quite a while... Carduh 12. Obviously, I had to buy it.

How is that stuff? It goes for $200 in Ontario for some reason I've never been able to figure out.

Wow... $200.00? I got it for $42.00! I haven't tried it yet. It's been 10 years since I've had any of it.

I remember it being on the sweet side and kind of a "broad spectrum" type of whisky. I'll open it up tonight and let you know what I think.

It was $249 for a while but they dropped the price. I guess no one was biting...

Ok... Cardhu 12: It has a floral, honey, vanilla nose. The taste is sweet, as I remember it. Kind of a vanilla, caramel, butter sweet all rolled into one. There is also the slightest bit of smoke. The finish is medium to short, with a caramel cream candy kind of note.... maybe a little dry. The mouth is full and on the medium, thick side. The legs are wide and slow to drop. I find no need for water, it is a very "soothing" and easy to drink scotch.

I kept thinking this has almost the same nose as Johnny Walker Black. I did some research and found out that it is the predominante malt in JWB.

For $42.00 I will definitely get a bottle or two more.

Sounds like good stuff for the price you are paying. Apparently Spaniards go nuts for this stuff, thus most of it is shipped to Spain.

I grabbed a bottle of Amrut Fusion. I can't open it yet, though; I've already blown my Scotch budget for this month, but I wanted to grab one before they are gone.

Me too! Where did you get it? I was looking on SV website and it showed out of stock.

Saw Black Bottle locally and I only know of this by reading. I'm not a big Island fan but have read some good stuff on this brand. My question is how peaty is this compared to, say, Bunnahabhain?

picked up a bottle of Redbreast 12yo today. I had it once at Avenue Pub in New Orleans. Really enjoyed it. It's not easy to find in my area so when I saw it I grabbed it.

Talisker 10 was on offer for £21 so it went into the trolley, not convinced with it though.

Picked up a Snow Phoenix the other day. Quite tasty for a vatted malt.

Vatted? I thought it's a Glenfiddich single malt. Perhaps a better question is, why would you expect a vatted malt to be any less tasty than a single? ;)

Its a single-malt with no age statement from some of the undamaged casks after the roof collapsed. Rumour has it that some of the scotch is >30yo wish I'd bought a bottle when I had the chance at £50.

A fair bit more peaty... you'd be hard pressed to find any peat in the last bottle of Bunny 12 I had, though there were hints of it.

Black Bottle is meant to be a Islay style blend (so, peaty). Is this the NAS or the 10 year old? (I don't even know if the 10 is available at the moment).

Thought it would be, I mentioned Bunna as I understand it may be a large part of the blend. I'm familiar with the Island Malts generally though I haven't had any in years. Uncertain about the age, will check on that.

That doesn't surprise me. Bunnahabhain strikes me as a very good foundational malt for a blend: sweet, malty, and salty, and a great background for the peatier malts to play off of. It doesn't take a lot of peated malt to leave a significant mark on a blend.

Returned from a cruise with 2 bottles of Johnnie Double Black and 1 bottle of Glen Elgin (Haven't tried it before, but I loved Compass Box Double Single and it's the malt half of it)

I picked up a bottle of Laphroaig 10 and a bottle of Talisker 10... two of my very favorites.
