Sitting at work in my head I figured I reached the 100 unopened mark by the end of 2008. I actually kept a log until my last 2 dusty shopping trips at the first of this year.

I usually try to keep around 20 open from verying degrees. About 10 are special, couple times a year sippers and actually sit in the upper part of the glass china cabinet. I keep 10 open everyday bottles like 1.75s in the bottom of the cabinet out of view.

My wife is pregnant and also a bourbon drinker and I have many of those unopened bottles she has been making me wait to open, when she can drink again. My unopened numbers should drop this summer.

Someone stop me before I buy again. I responded to this thread back in June 2008. At that time I had 143 unopened bottles. As I am getting close to retirement and I plan to stop spending money on bourbon once I retire, I have been stocking up. Also, although PA has a very limited selection of bourbons, but really good prices on the BTAC, I have been loading up on those whenever I can. Two more trips to Kentucky over the winter now find me with 206 unopened bottles. I need to get a life. By the way, I don't just collect it. I have been known to consume my fair share.

I had the same idea about cutting back on buying after retirement. However, as they say, the best laid plans....................since I retired last May I've added about 40 bottles to the bunker. I think I may have finally convinced my self that I have enough....we went to Chicago last weekend and I didn't even stop at Binny's or Sam's.

At last count, and not a completely accurate one at that, I have 48 bottles bunkered. I also have 41 opened, but I'm working on that. In addition, I also have 32 50 mils unopened. The minis are just a little collecting (non-drinking type) hobby that I enjoy. Joe

Don - First congrats on the pregnancy. And second, that's a sign of true love waiting until your wife can drink again......

Unopened bottles somewhere north of 300. Opened (bourbon) is in the 20 bottle range. I'm not close to retirement any time soon so who knows how many bottles I'll have bunkered by then......I do know it will be way more than I can drink.

.....I need more drinking friends......

I'm somewhere in the neighborhood of 20 unopened bottles, but a lot of that is backup for out-of-production favorites (Old Taylor from ND, SW Old Fitz BIB, OCPR). I've got around a dozen unopened bottles that are in the "to drink soon" queue; I'm just waiting for the right time to crack them open.

I may be able to help you with that, Greg.....I'm looking at just under 40 bottles bunkered (in short order...all collected in the past 4 months!) Many of these are not special bottles per se, but simply things I can't get locally and picked up when I could to have extra stock...no real collecting going on here....I do have 10-15 dusties, though, mostly BHC. I keep around 10-12 bottles open, but I prefer to have 6-7....I just have a bunch of stuff open now that I can't bear to finish or that I wanted to try, but don't love enough to gobble down on a daily basis.

I have 43 unopened bottles here in San Antonio and about 20 more in Washington State. I have about 10 open at home and maybe three here...pretty good considering I didn't start buying until October.

While I plan on drinking them at some point my collectible bottles include a Hirsch blue wax and the recent acquisition of the Clay and Finch

Thanks Greg! We are excited.

I have a few bottles that the wait is just killing me though, like the OF Repeal, VS Old Fitz 12 yr, ORVW 107 (I've never seen in Texas) and a 2001 WL Weller 19 yr. Soon, very soon!

It is addictive Jason I can vouch for that. I started in July with a case and now I have over a hundred. I have slowed down considerably. I travel alot for work though and it's hard not to stop at a store I've never been too.

Its funny you say this. My wife's pregnancy is what drove me to bourbon. We both used to be very into wine and would do weekly tastings. When we started trying, she stopped drinking. I cut back on wine too because it wasn't really fair for me to enjoy a good pinot with a meal while she drank milk. I felt guilty, but found the same did not hold true for whiskey. She was not tempted at all when I sipped on bourbon. That was 6 months ago and the rest is history. Now we very rarely have a bottle of wine open. (why pay $10-15 on 5 pours in a decent bottle of wine, when you can pay $20-30 and get 15 pours of high quality bourbon.

Well, I made the case count today...25 cases of unopened bottles of which 6 are made up of handles. Also, I have one case of pints and half pints which probably consists of 16 bottles.

So, the grand total is 26 cases that yeild roughly 280 bottles.

600+ Scotches (95% are single malts)

500+ Bourbons/Ryes

100+ Other (Cognac/Armagnac/Rum/Tequila)

good chance that there is more but stopped counting after 1,200 but this also includes duplicates...
