Bundaberg Rum Anyone?

Its the old bundy black that was released in very limited numbers. Bundy have just release an 8 year old black that you can get at 1st Choice for $50. Get it while you can

I noticed that too, I was going to email their contact address if I couldn't get any info or advice for 'goto people' here. They say they don't value bottles, but I hope they'd at least give me some info about what's in it.

I picked mine up this month from that site too, for $228. Just got delivered too. Beautiful. Came to AU$300 including postage and tax. Which is now making me extremely happy considering the week after I bought mine I found the one on eBay, with 32 bids already, going for AU$600 with 6 days left.

AU$250 is pretty cheap for a 1988 Black these days. Would go for AU$400+ at the moment.

Yeah, I've got myself 2 unopened one's from 2007, and 3 from this years stock, one opened. Great stuff. I've tasted the '07 and it's just as good.

fyi....US and AU dollars are trading very close...$1 USD to $1.046 AUD.

As far as I can tell...it is not sold in the U.S. Binny's lists one Australian rum..."Inner Circle Blue Dot"....I have not heard of this one either. Sam's does not list any Australian rum.

Scott & I sent some Bundy Tripple Filtered Rum over to last years Bourbon Festival. I think the overwhelming response was 'different' and 'not anything like Carribean Rum'.

I'm interested in Bundaberg rum, I know it is a huge brand in the Antipodes.

What does it taste like? What is the 8 years old like? Can you give some taste notes?

Are they Australian-made? By whom?

How do people drink them there (Cam and other Aussies chime in)?

It is Australia made, in the town of Bundaberg, QLD. I think the story goes, they used the excess molasses from the sugar cane that is so plentiful up there. Then a year after they started selling there was a war and the whole stock got sent as rations, and it has only grown since then. Become Australia's favourite drink of choice. Or so their web site says.

I think it is usually drunk like JB white label would be, with coke. Rarely drunk straight, unless it's being taken as a shot.

It comes RTD in bottles and cans, mixed with coke, ginger ale, or ginger ale and lime. In bottles it comes in UP 37%, OP 57%, yearly released 8YO, dustie 10YOs (from 1985 to 1995), and other limited editions.

I think, as you would suspect with a drink that is so popular, that it is seen as a working man's drink / bogan's drink.

In my opinion, as a newcomer to 'tasting', it is very sweet, smooth and warm. With the 8YO being even smoother and more drinkable on the rocks. It's the drink that I love when I haven't had any for a while, I know I can crack a bottle and swallow down it's goodness. :grin:

Only one of my friends that drinks rum doesn't like it. I haven't tasted many other dark rums, but those (Jamaican Appleton and Inner Circle) I have are completely different, the latter being horrid. And Bundy is the one I compare the others to. Although looking around there are many that feel the same about Bundy (Tasting notes on Bundy from: http://www.thewhiskyexchange.com/P-4446.aspx)

This rum is without a doubt the worst tasting tipple I have ever run across, Its jagged and raw notes of like sulphur and latex and has almost a corrosive mouth, and a finish that is rough and needlessly hot. This is seriously some of the most vile spirit I have ever ran across. An abomination to rum blenders everywhere. Posted By: Todd

Bundaberg rum has been an integral part of Australia’s heritage since 1888, as the old Bundaberg label on the left attests to. This unique rum was born out of the canefields of Queensland. Deep gold in colour with a perfumed sweet and spicy nose. The palate differs from the Jamaican style being slightly lighter, with less evidence of oak. The bottles distinctive polar bear logo is a symbol that Bundaberg Rum can ward off the wickedest chill or flu. 37% alc./vol.

Thanks Cam but really I was just interested in the comments of those who know the product well, so not necessary but thx again.

It sounds like there are different opinions, but the posts do give me a good indication of the palate.

Whenever I need some American slang translated i use urban dictionary dot com. Apparently it works vice versa: Bogan

Or if you go on youTube and search Bundy Rum the first video is of a bogan drinking a whole bottle of rum in a minute. You can tell he is a bogan because he drinks a whole bottle of rum in a minute.
