New bourbon stocks for Castle Brands

Castle Brands announced today that they have recently purchased bourbon stocks that date to 1991 and are 17 yrs old. These will be used to futher the Jefferson labels for the future. Nothing mentioned about Sam Houston.

When asked, the CFO would not give up the source of the bourbon and said only that the individual that owned the bourbon had forgotten about it until now. I wonder who that could be? Also stated that he thought it was some of the finest bourbon in the world. I guess he meant Kentucky....since, as we all know, that is where real bourbon is made.

I will have to wait for others to divulge the source, there can only be a small handful of places where such nectar could be found. I don't know that I buy the seller forgetting about the stock. That sounds a bit unbelievable.

Is there any idea how much was sold?

1991 gives me a little trouble in figuring out where the bourbon came from. There were so many distilleries making juice back then. I would guess that we could sort out any wheated stocks.....that leaves: Bernheim(not really), Ancient Age, Four Roses, WT, Medley, Yellowstone, OGD, Beam, Forester & Early Times, and HH. Did I leave any out? Did Seagrams have any Louisville distilleries open then?

ps almost forgot about Barton. though I can't think of too many reasons for Barton to sit on bourbon that long.

It could be complete bullshit (most likely) or it could be Buddy Thompson. Even if it is, Buddy didn't exactly forget he had it, he just forgot to do anything about it. Of course, his whiskey is more than 17 years old.

If it's exactly 17, that's 1991.

If there is any truth to their statement, it would be someone who owned some Heaven Hill whiskey in Heaven Hill's warehouses that forgot they had that particular whiskey in their portfolio, perhaps because they have so much. That is a possible scenario.

It is how Heaven Hill itself obtained the whiskey that became Rittenhouse Rye 21 and 23.

The idea that someone would have barrels in their possession and forget about them is impossible.

Went back and listened again...the owner didn't realize he owned it.....was how it was put. So, who knows where it came from. Hopefully, I'll get a call back from Castle and score some scoop.

That could be a scenario like I described about Heaven Hill or anyone else who has whiskey in their warehouses that is owned by someone else. It could be Heaven Hill, Barton, Buffalo Trace, even Brown-Forman. Those are only the most likely (if it's that kind of scenario). It could be anybody.

Since they are saying 17 years, It's probably safe to assume it is exactly that old, maybe a little older, maybe even not quite 17 but it will be 17 by the time they dump it.

So good for them except I consider any whiskey of unknown provenance to require an asterisk or something. I just don't consider that acceptable, especially for an ultra premium product.
