I tried a mini of WR within the last twelve months. Admittedly based on this very limited sample, it struck me as watery, lacking in mouth-feel, taste, and finish. I keep a bottle in the cabinet for display purposes, but at $30 locally for 750 ml, there are a number of other bourbons that compare favorably in both taste and price. However, I do admire the verve Brown-Forman had in offering this product and resurrecting/maintaining the pot still craft. And we still like Old Forester as an everyday, value bourbon.

Just happened to knock off a 1.75 of Old Forester tonight... Good everyday poor... Opps... i mean pour.

Well, I say, if the rich wanna drink Woodford Reserve, then God bless 'em, let 'em drink all they want of it. Let 'em feel good about drinking watered-down Old Forester that (IMHO) clearly suffers from being matured away from its usual warehouses.

More Old Forester Birthday Bourbon for me!!

(Speaking of Woodford....haven't they been distilling with pot stills down there for a decade or so? Are they ever going to BOTTLE their pot still make??)

The marketing folks must be thrilled... WR is a medium quality bourbon positioned / promoted as a high quality one.

IMHO, nothing bad about it (I don't find the copper taste that others have mentioned) but not worth the premium price.

Last I heard, maybe 6 months ago or so, they were mingling 75% pot still bourbon with 25% Old Forester stock. That could have changed by now, or be wholly inaccurate to begin with. You get what you pay for:grin:

On my Last visit to WR, I was told there are no plans to bottle a 100% pot still product.. They did a few private bottlings as such but all others (including private bottlings) are mingled with honey barrels from BF.

One, I don't believe the production at WR could keep up with the volume needed for a batch. Two, I believe BF is satisfied with the current taste and does not want to risk an all pot still product which most likely have more of a burnt copper taste.

I keep a bottle around. I drink it on Delta flights. It's OK. But, what I really DO appreciate about it, is it's very distinct flavor. It's different from any other bourbon, IMO. There are just a small handful of bourbons that I could recognize in a totally blind tasting. This would be one of them.

I guess I'm in the lone minority that like WR. I mean sure, if you compare it to PVW 20, it's going to come up short, but in terms of it's class: Maker's, Bulleit, Knob Creek, I think it is very good, and would prefer it to Bulleit or Knob.

And it makes a great Manhattan. It has a distinct taste that interacts well with the bitters and botanicals.

seen it at a store yesterday... on sale for $23.89... but passed it up for a bottle of Wild Turkey 101 Rye (19.99) and a bottle of baby Saz (23.99). I havent seen a bottle of Woodford Reserve for that price for quite sometime, but I guess that I was just in the mood for some Rye. Oh, and by the way this was in what is considered a rich area of the SF bay area.

When I first had Woodford about 6 years ago, I thought this is great, the last time a couple of years ago my opinion had changed. I think that my tastes developed during that time and the quality of the drink had changed.

WR was one of my first bourbons and while I enjoyed it that was before I really got turned on to bourbon. That occurred after trying GTS. I haven't touched WR since.

I'd love to try a pre-batch 90 WR as I am an OF fan.
