SippinJim
I mean that after you use it do you wash it with soap and water? Myself, I have been just rinsing it out with cold water, a quick wipe with a clean dish towel and then let it finish drying on the shelf.
jburlowski
I know some here would consider this heresy, but mine goes into the dishwasher with the rest of the tableware.

fishnbowljoe
I don't really have a glass strictly for bourbon. (yet) Most of the time I drink from a rocks glass. It goes into the sink with everything else. Joe
Gillman
I do it both ways, but I find that straight from the dishwasher, the glasses need a rinse in fresh cold water, to get rid of the soap residue and (sometimes) what my mother used to call the "clean dirt" from the machine.Gary
bluesbassdad
Yes, by hand in a very dilute solution of liquid detergent. I've found that a quick rinse and dry is far from adequate, especially if a few drops of bourbon have dried in the bottom of the glass.Yours truly,Dave Morefield
marco246
I don't. My wife takes care of it. I suppose the brandy snifters, which are crystal, are washed by hand, and the rocks glasses are done by machine. Don't know about the shot glasses. Ignorance is bliss. In any event, all glasses are immaculate before the pour.Cheers!Mark
ACDetroit
My wife just mentioned this tonight. Hogben was over Monday we had 4 pours and we used 8 glasses. So I like to use a new one each time then was them all in the morning. You can read more about this Here.
MikeK
I used to wash my snifters by hand with a wee bit-o-soap on the sponge and a thorough rinsing. Just a rinse will not remove the bourbon residue from the glass. We affectionately refer to it as bourbon skank. At some point I became lazy and now put the everyday glasses in the dishwasher. They have gotten badly etched by the detergent and I have to rinse them out before first use or the bourbon will taste funny.I still handwash all my expensive glasses. CorvallisCracker
Never. That way all I have to do is add a little warm vodka, swirl, and oola (as the French people say) - bourbon.Added via edit:Okay, make that Seagrams Seven
HipFlask
I love the way my bourbon glasses smell the next day with all of the dried bourbon smell. It sometimes smells even better than when I was drinking the night before and makes me want bourbon before I have had coffee. But I digress... I use soap on the outside and cold water on the inside and completely dry by hand before putting them on the shelf.
Josh
Mine just go in the dishwasher as well. I usually use ordinary rocks glasses or some of the glassware I've gotten from the distilleries themselves. If they have some special gold lettering or a cheesy glass buffalo or red wax on the bottom (guess where those were from?), I'll just hand wash. Never used a snifter, but I might give it a try. I've stopped trying to like brandy, so I won't be using them for that purpose anymore.

Stu
I do both. If by hand, I use no soap, just rinse well in hot water and dry. My dishwasher is top of the line that sterilizes. I specifically bought this one so that when I make beer, I do my bottles in the dishwasher prior to bottling. I get no off flavor.
swampguy
I rinse with as hot a water as I can handle. I work for a company oncee where we were cleaning vials for meds and learned that hot water dries quicker and leave less residue. I do this on all my glasses that I use for wine, beer, or brown liqour. I don't drink the clear stuff :-)
camduncan
..we had 4 pours and we used 8 glasses. So I like to use a new one each time then was them all in the morning.I'm with you Tony. If someone is tasting with me, we'll use a new glass for each different pour. It's not uncommon to have over a dozen glasses to wash after a session, and they'll range from sniffers to tumblers to port glasses. On my own, I only usually have one, maybe two pours in a night at most, so it's usually the same glass. For both occasions, the glasses are washed by hand as we don't own a dishwasher. I make sure they are washed with a clean dish cloth and will wash the glasses with the fresh soapy water before any greasy food items hit the water. ILLfarmboy
Scalding hot water. If I have been eating while drinking and get any grease on the outside of the glass I might use a tiny dab of Palmolive but I always end with a copious rinse of scalding water and hand dry with a clean towel. gblick
Only water for my bourbon glass, and dried with a paper towel.I never let the bourbon dry in the glass. After my last pour of the evening it gets rinsed well (along with rubbing of fingers), dried, and then put back into the cabinet ready for the next day. I also rinse/dry between pours of different bourbons.
