This bourbon whisky is voted the number one bourbon whisky in 2008. And its not easy to find. We do not have it in local stores here in Houston. Perhaps the only way to get one is thru the online/mail. And its not cheap! So to those who had tasted the Stagg, how is it? I am not a bourbon drinker but I like to try it. Is it available where you live?

Leo, it's safe to jump into the Bourbon Pool. You are free to post bourbon questions in the bourbon section. We won't bite. The Stagg might though, if it's going to be your first. ;) All kidding aside, Stagg is an awesome bourbon that you should be able to find in Houston. I'll bet one of our distinguished Houston members will PM you with a lead on some. As you referenced, besides being the best bourbon of 2008, Jim Murray in his "Whiskey Bible" awarded Stagg "World Whiskey of the Year" for an unprecedented 3 straight years (04-06). Not sure where it came down in 07, but many here have found it again to be exceptional. Now remember, Murray's is rating the Stagg against every whisk(e)y made anywhere on the planet. Even ones that begin with Glen. So, you owe yourself the opportunity to try this legend. Just go slow, really slow. It packs a whallop, and can easily ruin your appreciation of Stagg, and bourbon in general, if you're not careful.

Remember, to Always Respect the Stagg.

Funny side note a friend of my wifes stopped by the other night on his Harley. We had not seen him since last fall. He had been riding all day and I asked if he wanted a beer..."Sure" he says. I had to go down to the basement frig to get it, he followed. When he sees the bunker he almost fell over. So I suggest a sipper of Stagg, you know a nice 2 oz pour to sip on and chat of the past few months! Well he says "sip this or shoot it?" I told him sip! if you shoot it you could hurt yourself. Being the tuff guy and all he says I don't sip my whiskey and down the hatch it goes:smiley_acbt::hot:!!!

So he says, after he could see and breath again, "I'll never do that again...What the hell was the again?"

I told him had I known he was going to waste the flavors on a shooter I would have given him something to shoot! Not sure he got it but he will not be touching the Stagg any time soon.

Next time it's JW Dant Olde Bourbon for him!!!

Off Topic a bit, Leo, I am not much of a bourbon drinker myself, but I do enjoy the rye heavy types. Wild Turkey, Old Grand-Dad etc. Pick up a bottle of WT 101 or OGD BiB 100. Those are the bourbons that got me to liking bourbon. Never had George T. but, It's on my list!

I guess it's a good thing we don't keep that in the house! Could be the reason we don't see him much. Although he can have my share of the Jack, hence the reason I don't keep it in the house.
