pepcycle
The only color that's named after a liqueur is Chartruese. I've been experimenting with this wine based, high proof, green monster recently. With 130 spices its a powerhouse of flavors. Its also got a big dose of sugar. So I decided to make an herbal Manhattan using Chartreuse. It comes out to be a a Frankenstein cocktail that's somewhere between a Manhattan and a Sazerac. Pour a 1/4 oz of Green Chartrues into a shaker and swirl. Discard!!!Add one cup of crushed ice. Add 2-3 oz High Rye Bourbon Whiskey (OGD 114)Shake vigorously and strain into a chilled Martini Glass. Garnish with a Mint Leave. So let's call it a Sazhattan or Charzerac.
TBoner
Ed, sounds terrific. I enjoy Chartreuse, but I've only ever used it as a rinse for a tequila-based Sazerac variation. This sounds more my style.Another good drink with Chartreuse is called the "Final Ward," sort of a hybrid of the Last Word and Eighth Ward. It is essentially equal parts rye, lemon juice, Chartreuse, and maraschino liqueur (I prefer Luxardo). The first two ingredients are in an Eighth Ward, the last two are in a Last Word. I really enjoy the interaction of rye and Chartreuse. Now I'm off to try your Saz-Manhattan Fusion. Great idea.Regards,
