Megawatt
Are there any standards when it comes to rating a whisky's finish? Is there any real way to differentiate between "medium-long" and "long"? I mean, how can one say what is "short" and what is "long" if there is no point of reference, other than other whiskies? Sometimes when reading reviews by professional whisky writers, one will call a finish "rather short", while the next guy says "nice and long". Is it all strictly a matter of opinion? smokinjoe
I have found that my definition of "long", doesn't necessarily agree with what others may think. JOE

OscarV
This reminds me of an old joke that Roseanne used to do in her stand up act before she did that TV show. You can tell that maps were designed by a man,......... oh sure, one inch equals a mile. boss302
I think a lot of it has to do with the taster's previous experiences. I know that when I am tasting a whisky for the first time, I am comparing it against other whiskies of similar type. And, given my previous experiences, I judge the length of the finish accordingly.
